So, I have a similar story.  Last night it worked, now it doesn't.  Only thing is, I've noticed something over the last few days.

About a week ago I was polishing my screen and I noticed what seemed to be a very slight "water spot".  I looked closely and it appeared to be "under" the screen from the inside.  So, like a smart guy, I opened the battery cover, the earphone jack cover, the USB cover, and the SD card to allow for a little "air" access over night to dry it out.  No change.  All this time the phone works fine.

I did notice the next day that when I used the screen near or "on" the water spot that it actually "smeared", so to speak.  It was then that I came to the conclusion that the moisture was actually IN the screen and not under it!  There are two layers to a touch screen that make it function:

1-the contact layer that you touch.  Has hundreds of little points on the back side that contact the sensory layer.
2-the sensory layer reads the pressure from the contact layer as it is touched.

So, with this in mind, I've kept an eye on it for the last couple of days.  It has slowly migrated about 3/4 of an inch across the screen to where it is at now which leads me to my next conclusion.  I believe that the contact and sensory layers are "shorted" out by the moisture bead (as if you were holding your finger on that spot constantly).  I've come to this conclusion because this morning when I unlocked my phone, the item on my Favorites screen directly under the moisture spot highlighted and then "came up" as when you want to move it to a place in order on the list.  I could not get it to respond and after relocking and unlocking it again, now nothing responds.

So, does anyone have any bright ideas for clearing this bit of moisture?  I've thought that possibly either using a hair dryer to heat it out or possibly the refridgerator to pull the moisture out (done this once with a phone that took a bath in the toilet and it worked Great!) might cut it.  Unfortunately, I'm an idiot and didn't get insurance on my phone... Put it in a bowl of rice for a couple of days and see if that helps.

IDK why you would think that would help so much...take a warm bowl of food and put a top on it, then place it in the fridge, tell me what happens.
Add rice+heat, should suck out any moisture...given that it's water and you didn't break the LCD screen some-how

I'm having the exact same problem with my instinct.  This is the second time this has happened (had a replacement the first time).  Any ideas as to why this is happening/and have you found a solution yet?

Nothing I tried worked.  I took it in and they replaced it.  He said that he sees about 2 instances per DAY of this problem.  Said that Samsung/Sprint aren't admitting to a mfg problem but that they should.  He said that it's from a blunt impact to the screen that ruptures the "gel" layer between the touch and the sensory layers...

I had mine for about 6 months at that point and I take PERFECT care of my phone!  (No scratches, no dings, no drops...  I don't think that it happened to mine from an impact to the screen, but whatever.)  I didn't have insurance at that point either.  When I went in to the sprint store, I talked to the manager and worked it out that they'd set me up on insurance from that point and they fixed my phone.

I do know that they can also just replace the screen, too.  Also, you can buy replacement screens on eBay I think if you want to do it yourself!

This would solve every issue the Instinct has...from Slide to Unlock-No Wifi....Modelck...you are absolutely a genius.

HOW do you get an expensive phone without being willing to spend insurance money? Oh well!

Hey there.  For me, there was no solution other than replacement.  The spot that looks like water is not.  It is the "gel" layer between the two surface layers that has ruptured and hardened.  You can go to ebay and buy a replacement screen for the Instinct and do it yourself or you can go to the local Sprint store in some really tight, revealing clothes and try flirting with the person behind the counter to get what you want (i.e. a new phone)!

Hope that this helps!
