I've had an Instinct since September of 2008 and the screen went bad for the second time. It's the gel leak issue where you get a little spot on the screen and it no longer works because it thinks contact is being made.

I've seen the replacement touch screens on ebay for a reasonable price and even found some brief directions on replacing it. Just wondering if anyone has successfully replaced their touch screen on their Instinct.

Hello there and welcome to the forum.

There have been a few users to try it and were successful with their repair.  I had the same problem with my M800 about a year ago but I just got mine replaced for free from the local Sprint store.

Just finished replacing mine but the ol'e fun meter was not pegged on this project. The touch screen is held into the outside bezel with very thin, black double sided tape. I had to use a heat gun to peruade the two to part ways. Destroyed the double sided tape trying to get it off the old screen to reuse it. Ended up using Air Seal, a liquid gasket designed for small R/C car motors. Letting it set overnight, dunno if I was successful yet or not but it did seal down nice and should adhere pretty well when fully set-up.

mine has the spots showing up.  Incredibly hard to press "a" and "g" when texting.  Oddly, when it's cold they seem to work fine... but room temp and above and they crap out again.  I had my handset replaced last July as it just freaked out and Sprint store techs couldn't figure it out (hard reboot didn't help).

Now that I'm out of the 1 year warranty and no insurance on the phone, I may just try to wait it out until December when my 2 years are up... though with Sprint Premiere I'm eligible for my discount now so who the heck knows.  I know I'm not sold on the Instinct HD so I'm probably gonna try a Blackberry, Palm Pre or HTC Hero...
