I know there is a great need for people who are members of Alcoholics Anonymous to find meetings to go to, especially when they travel.  I think a good use of the GPS in the Instinct, would be to have an application that would show the user meetings in their area based on their current location.  The app could also give the address of the meeting, how to get there, what time meetings at that location are, etc.  This kind of app could help a lot of people.  It would be neat too if the application could display some of the frequent readings that AA people use such as the 12 steps, 12 traditions, "How it Works", etc.

For people on the other end of the spectrum, they can already find bars using GPS.  Grin

I know there might be a lot of judgment on this type of app, but it could certainly be helpful to people.

Are these places not included in live search?

Meetings are usually at churches, and other social meeting areas.  They are not included in live search because they do not go by any specific name.  There are web sites for specific regions that will list local meetings.  If the Instinct could leverage a US database of meetings, then it could filter those based on the current location.  If I knew how to program JAVA, and knew how to interface a database somewhere, I might take a stab at it.  But unfortunately, I don't.

Navigation > Search > Alcoholics Anonymous

Seemed to work pretty decent.

When you search for AA, you are find central offices, not meeting places to have AA.  Calling central office is like calling 411 for AA.  After you reach them, you can tell them where you are and they will look in a directory of meetings in your area and tell you what time the meeting is, its location, and what type of meeting it is.

I think a great app would be to have the GPS interface an AA meeting directory to show me where meetings are in relation to my location.

Thanks.
