Android is an Open source OS which is created/supported by Google. For more info goto http://code.google.com/android/ there is a short clip explaining what Android can do and clips of its graphical interface. It looks very nice and I am not sure if it has been released for public use yet but I do know that it has been in the works for a long time and there are developer's challenges for more and more apps to be created

yeah they've been working on it for a LONGGGGGG time a little over a year, it's been porteed to alot of Windows Mobile phones, probably can't be ported to the Instinct unless it was a Java App, probably not enough space to store it on the instinct as well

Anyone know anything about porting software?  I understand that the test phones of Android have run on 200Mhz, which is what the instinct has.

Would be great if we could get Android on the Instinct!  Afterall, it's only software.

Know there's a group working on porting OSX onto the Instinct right now. Allbeit, there are so many things that don't work on it that it may not be worth it.

Android would be worth it!  Any thoughts?

Yes , I too believe Android would be worth a peek, but I'm gonna wait and see what pops up for native os first. From what I've been reading there should be some pretty cool stuff coming down the pipe.So buckle up and see what happens.

Grrrr...I'm not a programmer, so I don't get it.Is "Android" based on some coding language that is unusable on a java based machine?Thoughts?

I have thought about it, but then I realized that you can't PORT a c based program to a java based phone.

I could be wrong but i just googled android and java, and from what i am reading it says that android is made to run on a java platform.

I also remember someone on the board with a 10mb jar or jad file for android trying to find a place to upload it so he could put it on his instinct.

I was the person who was trying to upload the Android Jar.  I tried to run it on the emulator but tone of errors occurred. So for now the Instinct will be better off with its own OS [specially if we want to keep Live search or Navigation]  Hopefully the developers will blow us away with their creation  :Smiley

Im pretty sure their just talking in a general sense of new applications not one specific program.
