My supervisor got a Dare and when she goes to text and holds the phone horizontal it is full QWERTY and when she flips it vertical it goes to a T9 screen. The only feature that I said that would have been nice on the Instinct.
query, does it go into T9 or 9-key, BIG difference. we have a 9-key app now, thanks to our awesome forum members writing programs, T9 is different than 9-key. 9-key is the normal phone key pad and you have to press numbers multiple times to get a certain letter, while T9 will recognize the word from the numbers pressed.
example, saying hey:
9-key - "4433999"
T9 - "439"
hence why once someone gets used to T9, they want it back. I used to be able to send a 160 word text in the same time it takes me on a computer, only with 1 hand, while with the landscape keyboard I have problems. I can type quite fast on it, but sometimes when I reach for the O or P I hit the flip screen button and it slows me down.
the whole XT9 topic does interest me though. It would explain the spellcheck and leave the phone somewhat open for a T9 9-key system. the benefit of XT9 to T9 is the spellcheck though, if you don't know how to spell a word in T9 you were screwed and had to manually enter it where as on the instinct if I get close enough, the spellchecker will usually help me spell it correctly.
