Has any one been able to utilize the "slide 2 unlock" freeware application to the instinct? I love the phone, but cannot stand the unlock button. A touch sensative slide phone unlock is badly needed. I'm sure most, if not all agree..

Is it possible to disable the lock button on top and have a slide unlock to appear on the screen when you touch the house icon?

This application will only run on windows 5,6 based phones. Instinct runs its own OS so S2U2 wouldn't work.
Admitadly, this functionality would be slick. But power draining...The way Instinct does it is kinda smarter

Are you positive that there is absolutly no way to install this on the instinct? If you google "slide 2 unlock for instinct" there seems to be sites that mention a newer version of this freeware that may be applicable to the instinct. Either way, this feature is a must have for the instinct. I would even be willing to purchase it from sprint, etc...

There is an option to lock the phone only when the button is pressed, but not one to disable it completely.

the existing lock feature saves power...if there is a slide to unlock OR a finger gesture to unlock...it would require the phone to stay "on."  Wouldn't that shorten the battery life dramatically?

Finger gesture to unlock:  ie, setting up the touch scrn where you could do different finger swipes to unlock the phone...figure 8...spell out a word...etc.

what are you talking about.. you hit the top lock button and the screen comes on telling you to hold it down to unlock the phone. if it had a slide to unlock feature instead it would be much more user friendly..

True i have it installed on my TOUCH right now.  It is a pretty neat little App to have, well for me at least, im always hitting the unlock button and would hate to know that i unlocked it while it was in my pocket.  Last i need is to be calling random contacts and having them on the line for lengthy periods and not even know it  Tongue Shocked

I'm back and forth on it.  I like the slide to unlock on my Touch because I just push the lower button that is near the slider.  If I had to press the button on the top, like on the instinct, I don't think it would be as useful as just holding it till in the bottom buttons light up.  On the other hand... when I don't hold it long enough (which I do every now and then), I don't like pushing it again, and a slide button would be more userfriendly... and more fun to use!  I want both options! Grin

No, this wouldn't shorten battery life.

Any ideas on how to get this on the phone?  Or if there is any software or App? Huh?

No, this wouldn't shorten battery life.

I was thinking the same.   The majority of the power drain comes from the screen being on.  In software, it should be possible to turn the screen off (go blank as if it were in lock) and wait for the user to do X gesture to turn the screen back on.  It will effect battery life because the event handler will constantly check for the gesture; however the amount would be near negligible.  The big problem would be if the touch pad cant accept input while the screen is off, but once again, all of this should be possible with software.

Some on come to my job and do my work so I can spend my day trying all of this out in Eclipse.

Are we talking about clicking the button quickly, then sliding to unlock like the iphone/touch?  I don't think the screen accepts touches while it is off unless thats a feature that could be turned on.

I'd volunteer to do your job HagNDaz, but I worked on a competition for my school that involved intense Microsoft XNA programming for the XBox, and I had my fill.  Still waiting to hear back from the competition... but have a good chance of winning it according to the professors!  Woohoo!  Grin
