http://www.mobilereelz.com/   for uploading ringers from music from your computer.  This is the easiest I've ever seen, and works great every time.  Choose the M4A format for the instinct.

Here is a site that has a lot of apps....how ever they arent specifically made for the instinct. I have download a few and some work and some just were not made for a touch screen.

www.getjar.com

-feel free to post any good apps that work for you.

I don't think Audacity will change the bitrate.  But that is the key.  You don't need it at a higher rate (larger file) because you can't tell a lower quality clip from a cd quality clip on the speaker that the ringer will be playing from.  So sprint's ringers are 32 - 64 bit (and smaller) as someone above said.  If you have nero, that has audio encoding ability - itunes will also do this - or any free conversion software you find by googling audio converter would work.

--Whenever I've exported audio with Audacity it has just been File -> Export as mp3.  Without the bitrate encoding option, but it may been in some settings menu.

I figured out how to lower the bit rate (convert the file in itunes and set the bit rate there (went from 256 to 128). Much better and smaller and sounds fine.

Also, i've used rumkin a dozen times now and it's worked perfectly.

When loading a ringtone to your phone from myxer.com, you are given (at least on the free tones) the option to customize, i.e., pick the section of the ringtone you want and the length you want or to just shorten the tone.  No extra software is needed.  Also, you can select, when you set up your account, the maximum length of the rintone when you load it and it will cut off the tone at that length.  Great site!

I use

http://www.phonezoo.com

for my ringers.  You can upload a song from your PC, then pick what section of the song you want to use as your ringer.  You can add fade in/fade out to it as well.  It's very simple to use and it looks like they support the Instinct.

It works on Instinct, but it's a pain in the butt.  They really need a real IM program.  I used Mundu IM on my treo and it was very good, hopefully something like that will come out sooner then later.

I don't see the point to IM programs with this type of phone, because it won't run in the background. This phone only lets you run one java program at a time. I tried the AOL IM one on other phones before, and it kinda sucked. Took too long to use. The web based ones will at least let you leave and come back to them when you need. Only thing is, no alerts.

You can use AIM via the SMS gateway. Short code 265000.

Those are semi built in or integrated into the operating system.

But, run a java program yourself...any game, app you download, and try to multi task with that.  Good luck. It ends.

The mods should make this a sticky thread.. If anyone finds any websites that offer any free apps, ring tones, screen savers or anything for the instinct you should post it here.. I'll start.. www.3gforfree.com offers free ring tones and screen savers for the instinct.. Hope this thread will help for making our instincts even better then it already is!  Wink
www.myxer.com or wap.myxer.com (from your phones browser) i think is alot better
