The mods should make this a sticky thread.. If anyone finds any websites that offer any free apps, ring tones, screen savers or anything for the instinct you should post it here.. I'll start.. www.3gforfree.com offers free ring tones and screen savers for the instinct.. Hope this thread will help for making our instincts even better then it already is!  Wink

just downloaded google maps. unfortunately when I go to search there is no way to enter text. Any suggestions? Please let me know ASAP.

Please keep this information only thread. Open a new one for discussion if you have questions.
A lot of good info gets lost once threads like this turn into discussions.
Mods please delete mine and rich1013 posts. Thank you.

seriously? we should leave an app that doesn't work for the phone out here in this section W/O a comment saying it doesn't work. I'll post how great it is and that you should d/l it in a discussion when it works...

Everyone should know this site by now, but for those who dont

The best site to get free ringtones from is www.myxertones.com

You can upload songs from your PC and make your own ringtones, or you can go through your phones browser and search what other people have uploaded. Its simple and easy to use. Once again thats:

I've posted a few times about it.  Basically it's just depends on what you want out of your gps.  I could do a lot of the same things with google maps as I can with telnav, and I had faster response on my old phone.  That might be hardward related, but I'd like to test it and find out.  I also liked the sate maps, which telnav doesn't have.
I think it's one of those things that you have to have a need for to understand why you would want it.  Kind of like some of the other features. I had a sales person ask me why I would want IM when I could just send SMS.

sounds stupid, but obviously he's never needed it.  I gave me a few examples, primarily cross platform examples, and he got it.

Specifically, why would you want google maps on the Instinct when the GPS on the Instinct kills it?  I've used both....  In saying this though, I will probably download it anyway...... Cheesy

OK, two things (one on topic and one off)

1) I just used the GPS yesterday and it kills. Wicked responsive and right on with the directions. I expected a delay as it's a phone, not a tomtom, but it moved just as fast as i did (and the traffic feature was pretty accurate as well).

2) Back on topic, does anyone know if myxertones "shrinks" the size of the ringtone your trying to create? I.E. i downloaded a ringtone (free from sprint) and its 20 seconds long and only 99kb, however, i did the same thing (cut a song down to 24 sec with audacity) and it was around 600kb! Huge difference when you only have 32Meg to save ring tones and apps on.
Just wondering if myxer (or another app) can compress mp3's (or maybe convert it into another format thats more compressed?)

Thanks

1.  I bet the response time could be reduce significantly if they loaded up the maps into your SD card.  I use a 2 gig card in my Mobile GPS and it's not even close to half way full, even with other stuff loaded in it.

2.  The bit rate could be a factor.  For ringtones you could go to a lower one, like 64, could do the trick.  Experiment with that and then let your ears tell you whether that is what you like.  Grin

Actually, i was saying the response time of the Nav was exceptionally fast. I LOVE that feature.

As for the condensing the bit rate, is there a way to do that? I didn't anything like that in audacity, though i haven't looked yet. I will now though. Thanks for the tip. Grin

I don't think Audacity will change the bitrate.  But that is the key.  You don't need it at a higher rate (larger file) because you can't tell a lower quality clip from a cd quality clip on the speaker that the ringer will be playing from.  So sprint's ringers are 32 - 64 bit (and smaller) as someone above said.  If you have nero, that has audio encoding ability - itunes will also do this - or any free conversion software you find by googling audio converter would work.

--Whenever I've exported audio with Audacity it has just been File -> Export as mp3.  Without the bitrate encoding option, but it may been in some settings menu.

http://*****/
it's good for ringtones/pics/videos.
even naughty videos  Shocked
there is even a "send to phone" option.
you can upload your own stuff or search other peoples uploads.
even save stuff to your favorites from your pc, in case you can't download from your phone for some reason.
