I need to know if BitPim can backup everything on an Instinct. I was able to connect it and get the filesystem backed up. But in the process it managed to reset the phone to factory default before I could get the data backup. Kinda a catch 22, I was trying to backup the unit to PREVENT this from happening. One thing that is more important to me than any new feature is the ability to backup. I hate having to re-tweak and install a phone because of expermintation or phone glitch. If there is another product out there please let me know. What I dont want is something just for contacts or just for favorites. I need ever single bit of data backed up, in esence so that I could clone the settings if needed.

Thanks.

Well,I feel your pain.I used to use Bitpim as well so I just tried it and yup....hard reset. BUMMER...major bummer.I hope the mobile back up works well enough,it just said it would take a few minutes.Fingers crossed. So my advice is either contact the guy who made Bitpim or use the mobile sync feature. But definitely don't use Bitpim until it's fixed.

Can you confirm that the newest build of BitPim works with the Instinct? If so, what version do we need to get it to safely work?

Yes, you can access the file system, it is VERY slow to back up, and it doesnt restore to "as was" state. somethings get recovered where others do not. I wonder if its connecting at like 9600 baud?

Same here.  Cannot find the phone.  I tried using the "Other CDMA phone" since the Instinct does not show up on the list of devices, but I couldn't see the files on my Instinct.

You have to be using the latest bitpim, you must set your phone to modem mode. not usb mode. there are several ways to do this the easiest is to dial ##USB# to toggle. Then you must know what com port the phone is using (check device manager) then set the port in bitpim. and use device other CDMA. You will then get access to the "file system", none of the other functions of the bitpim will work.. yet....

Any alternatives to bitpim?  It would be nice to be able to backup the data (contacts at least) on your phone.
