i also am a IRC user and would like to know if the instinct offers any software that will allow mirc chatting.

I used wlirc on my LG Muziq but can confirm that I was unable to install any version on the Instinct so far.  I'm guessing even if I could get it to install it would no doubt have issues pulling up the onscreen keyboard.  Hopefully they address things like this in a future update

I hear that jmirc works on any java enabled phone, but i am not about to test it on this phone. If someone else does, post us here. I am just paranoid about loading software not designed for the phone yet.

Until the keyboard fix comes NOTHING that requires keyboard input not SPECIFICALLY made for the Instinct will NOT work.  Not an IRC app, not an IM app, not Pandora, not gMaps, not etc and so forth... NOTHING.
