Just wanted to say thanks peeps.. this works pretty well, even over a 1x network..  Takes a few to get the rtsp stream going, but once playing its good.

After upgrading to 2.0, orb no longer worked for me. it was great and fantastic before! I can file browse and open pix and stuff and docs, but it will no longer stream music or video for me.
I have the righ 3gp aac rtsp setting. I get that ugly little circle, but half the time I get "javax.microedition.media.mediaexception: start failed" error and the other half, it looks like it finishes 'loading' but it plays nothing. The time count does not increase. The fact that the screen shuts off confirms it's playing nothing.

Last night I uninstalled and reinstalled. I'm using the instinct's browser. I can stream on a separate PC without any issues.

If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

I finally took 5 minutes to get Orb working on my phone and I have to say ORB is amazing. Slingbox for my Instinct yippee! I will keep this Instinct forever because it does EVERYTHING I want and it makes high quality calls when I'm bored.

Try the install/reinstall deal.

You'll have to re-set your setttings.

Once working, its pretty cool.  Video works for me as well, but its so grainy that its really not watchable.  All I'm concerned about is audio, and it works well for me.

Once thing I did notice, people said you cant receive phone calls while streaming.  Well, thats true, and false. I'll be streaming a radio station, and the music will cut out, goes back to the web page, and I can hear my phone ringing.  But the slider doesnt appear and I cant answer it.  I can hit the home button and go to the home page, but if i hit the phone button it doesnt do anything.  Basically the phone locks up until the call quits ringing.  Then I can go see who called, and call them right back.  Better than not getting a call at all I guess....
I know that I am late on this but I NEVER got the slider on my first Instinct. Traded it in and got it for one call on the new Instinct after that I have NEVER seen the slider again. I can't care - I unplug my headphones and sometimes I can answer the call and other times, I have to call the person back. Since I have never known another way on this phone I don't let it bother me. I think something in the headphone plug gets bent or broken the first time you plug headphones in and it never works after that. Clearly this doesn't happen to everyone but to me twice.

So i previously had the Orb 2.0 beta installed on my home PC and it worked. Now Orb has auto-updated itself and it no longer works.
Anyone have similar issues? Anyone know how to get the newer versions working?

I am now getting the same error after orb updated to ver 0049. There is a related post on the orb forums (search for "javax.microedition.media.mediaexception: start failed"). No resolution as of yet.

Worked for a bit two mornings ago and only for a max of about 40 seconds, and havent been able to stream shoutcast type stations since. Installed Orb on a different PC with no firewall and behind a replacement Cisco 1605 router.

Then I tried changing the Instinct's data buffer size from 20 (max) back to 7 (default).; Had to reboot phone and update the Data Profile. For about 10 minutes I could stream shoutcast stations using orb on both the native browser and opera mini. Then it stopped working again.

I use the Instinct to stream shoutcast stations to an Altec Lansing im600 - No PC required, and no having to DJ.

SK

EDIT:

I changed the buffer size back to 20... still nothing. Then I changed the default MMG (Multi-media gateway?) address from 068.028.031.020 to all zeros 000.000.000.000 (because there is no subnet mask, not sure if this is the same as setting a wildcard static route) and the stream port from 0554 to 0000. Now it is working again at least for now. Wonder if Sprint's node or host holding that 68. IP address was filtering streaming traffic from non-Sprint URLs?

Orb is running for me.  Everything works.  There are only two things I have yet to try:

     1. Cable TV, via TV Tuner Card through ORB
(any suggestions on getting one? PCI? PCI Express 1? Brands? Models?)

     2. Everyone says they get their sirius and xm working... HOW?
I have a sirius subscription and would be nice to stream
         Howard 100 via Instinct...

Everything else works like a charm.

--------------------------------------

Still having Trouble?

Make sure your settings are all 000.000.000.000's on your IP.
Make sure your settings are all 0000 for Port;
Set Buffer set to 20 instead of default 7

To change these settings it can be found
Here.

I even turned my Audio settings all to 120 here

For those that are still having problems, after the above steps try the following:

When logging onto Orb.com on your Instincts's browser, make sure you have the browser set to MOBILE mode, not Standard PC mode.  It is the setting button 3rd down on the left side of your Instinct's browser interface.  Once its selected on Mobile, log into Orb with usersname and password and get your settings correct at the very bottom of the Orb Page.

Settings should be as follows:

Speed     |    Stream     |     Layout     |     More
   |                   |                   |                 |
320 KB/s     AAC/.3gp          Hide Icons       set PC upstream
(at least)    (always)      (helps speed up       to 0 to measure
                                    viewing lists)

On my PC version of ORB, I am using AVS Codec and have yet(20 days of streaming from ORB) to have a problem with it yet.

If anyone can help me with Sirius, i'd be Grateful!!

Ok so i figured out how to listen to Sirius.
Things you'll need.

1. a 3.5mm Dual Male end Audio Cable.

-=----------------------------=-
 |                                         |
3.5mm male end                3.5mm male end

2. An audio recorder
(Windows Has one but I'm using Ease Audio Converter's "Audio Recorder")

3. A sound card capable of Audio Output and Audio Input

4. Lots of hard drive space
(depending on how long you want to listen to the stream)

5. A working Orb account

_____________________________________________________________

This is how i am Streaming My Sirius right now...

Step 1 on your PC:
--------------------
Plug One end of Audio Cable into Sound Output(usually green)
&
The other end into the Sound Input in your PC

Step 2 on your PC:
--------------------
Begin playing whatever audio it is that you want to play
(in my case its Howard 100 from my Sirius Internet Player)

Step 3 on your PC:
--------------------
Play with your audio settings in Sound Properties so that you get the correct Jack selected for Microphone input, and the correct levels for Audio Output so that your feed isn't just muffled high distortion.

Once you've got recording levels correct in the Green(Crisp) not the Red(distorted) Open your Audio Recorder and begin recording.
You need to find out where the file that is being recorded is being saved to.
mine is the one i setup C:\AudioConverted.

Step 4 on your PC:
--------------------

Open the Orb application, add that directory in the Audio media section of Orb.

Step 5 on your Phone:
--------------------

Log into Orb > select that Folder > and Select the File that is being recorded to play.  It should stream the file, and there you go.

Its going to be on a little delay b/c 1 it has to convert it, and 2 its being recorded then played. So its not real-time but pretty damn close.

Step 6 on PC:
Close audio recorder when you are done.  The file will be HUGE depending on how long you've recorded, make sure to delete this file when you're done listening.  To Start over, simply open your streaming media player, record another audio file.. and open that current recording with Orb....

Great post. Another tip, you can set pretty low sample rate to save space. Also, a good recording program might have a scheduler and auto delete option.

OOXteme,

I had something similar. It turned out my settlings were getting stuck and the AAC setting was not taking. I log in from the PC it's installed on and my phone at the same time and set up the settings and it usually seems to work. Also clear cache and cookies before hand. See if that helps.
