gnrattlerjr -- there was a Phonedog.com video that showed the trouble he was having getting Opera Mini to work right ... so at launch, there might be a few bugs that have to be ironed out for it to work and play nicely with the Instinct.

If I could get opera mini working nicely on my old sanyo katana, i'm sure it'll run just fine on the instinct.

i saw a vid on youtube (not phonedog) and the guy said the only reason that opera mini did not work on the instinct is bcuz the instinct does not have a the 2 hard keys that is takes to make it work. so i hope they come out with one that will work on touchscreen phones

It was something to do with it crashing and not actually running. Here's the link to the video where it's shown (around the 5:30 mark):

well i think the the main reason is the fact that you dont have the 2 buttons it needs and also the text fields dont bring up the keyboard. But hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Your Katana has a number pad, the instinct doesn't there are mannnny issues with the instinct and opera so it'll take a good while before it's compatible, and your sanyo katana is a completely different phone than the instinct, WAYYY different lol

I understand that, but I just figured that since my current phone is so much older and simpler than the Instinct, then there shouldn't be any problems with a more advanced phone handling the same Java app.

The way technology is going, it looks like the old fashioned way of entering numbers on a standard keypad old technology.  Guess apps like opera mini will have to make some adjustments on their programs to keep up.

I've heard from lead TWIT Leo Laporte & Steve Gibson that Mini Opera has NO sql security so anyone looking at opera can see all info you enter including passwords.

They say its a great browser thou.. So just don't to banks & sites that have CC info.

So i know we all saw that it didnt work on the phonedog reviews. But has anyone else tried to install it on there phone.

If so please post up your results.

If you havent but want to try then just goto:  mini.opera.com on your instinct browser and download it and install.

I installed v.4.01 last night (through phone browser) and it didnt work. The first time I tried it, it opened up fine and then it said "battery low, exiting application" (battery was @ 50%). Every time since then it loads about 70% and then just sits there, not doing anything until I hit the home button and exit the app. Tried that about 8 times and then i deleted the app. Hopefully opera will set up a browser for Instinct soon because this browser isnt great and i loved opera on my BB8830.

Because the web browser sucks. And opera is awesome. The panning method on the regular browser is cool though when you have some contrast behind you.

And the included browser also has some security (or lack thereof) issues.
