OK so after watching the phonedog reviews and seeing that he tried to install opera mini and it wasn't workign for him. I decided to find out what opera mini actually was because i had never seen it. Well i used the simulator and it is awesome if we can get this to work on the instinct i will be more then happy.

Here's the link try it out for yourself.

Absolutely two thumbs up for Opera Mini here ... it helped make my A900 Internet worthy!

Opera Mini is awesome! I use it on my Sanyo MM-7400 (old phone I know) and it works wonders!

Opens up a whole new world doesn't it mewantbfp? I struggled with the original browser for a while and never had warm fuzzy feelings. Opera Mini was something I stumbled onto and I've been turning other folks onto it whenever I had the chance. It even allowed me to be able to access my corporate Webmail -- including calendar, contacts, etc. The only downside I've had with the A900 is that the text entry has acted a little flaky with a couple of the software versions, but it was never been anything but a minor inconvenience to re-enter the text.

My Today Screen

Opera mini is pretty awesome.  However, it remains to be seen if the Instinct will be supported from the get-go.  Meaning having the browser in landscape mode and touch capable.  It would be rather sad if you installed Opera Mini on the Instinct and the touch screen doesn't play with the browser at all!!!  I have Opera Mini on my Sanyo M1 for some time now, I'm still amazed at how fast it is.

Also, Firefox Mobile is floating around out there somewhere.  Saw a video of the interface on lifehacker, it looks pretty nice.  Hopefully it'll be as fast and clean as FF3.

Instinct still a nice phone...but its already in a box in my closet.

Its not out yet.....

Opera has touch for Pocket PC, I wonder if it carries over to full touch.  I did not realize had a touch UI, then again I currently don't have a touch screen phone.....lol

I heard that Instinct will be acquiring Opera Mini which will be downloadable to the phone, not out-of-box.  Can someone tell me more about Opera Mini, if has full Java capabilities, how will it be better than Instinct's normal browser?

I haven't heard about the instinct acquiring opera mini i don't think that's happening. But they may make a version that works on the instinct.

But yeah do a search first next time (below is the link to a post about it and a link to the simulator):

Opera Mini has limited support for JavaScript. Before the page is sent to the mobile device, its onLoad events are fired and all scripts are allowed a maximum of two seconds to execute. The interval and setTimeout functions are disabled, so scripts designed to wait a certain amount of time before executing will not execute at all.
After the scripts have finished or the timeout is reached, all scripts are stopped and the page is compressed and sent to the mobile device. Once on the device, only a handful of events are allowed to trigger scripts
When one of these events is triggered, Opera Mini sends a request to the proxy server to process the event. The proxy server then executes the JavaScript and returns the revised page to the mobile device.
Pop-ups, if not blocked by the JavaScript restrictions, replace the web page being viewed.

And there are conflicts with the instinct and opera mini, text fields don't bring up the keyboard. Sad

I actually like how it compresses the sites because loading is super fast and it does a good job of making the pages look like there supposed to. I have been using it on my a900 and even with the tiny screen on that it has been pretty good.

But you are right the text fields are the problem. Which means opera would have to make a version for us instinct users. Hopefully they will.

Well Helio, there was a ported version of Opera but we could only use it in portrait mode till Helio actually made it more compatible with the device. So my guess is that Sprint might have to do some work on the Opera if it isn't tweaked and released as an 3r party app. which i assume it most likely will, i can't wait for the FireFox mobile browser to be released!

Me too firefox mobile would be awesome, skyfire is also awesome, and even opera mobile is supposed to have flash so that would be awesome as well.

However i think opera mini is our most realistic choice for the time being.

I installed Opera Mini on my A-900 and it is the best thing since Bluetooth! The speed of the browser is ridiculous. I dont think Sprint could have made anything like this on their own. It definitely speeds up your web browsing..2 or 3 times faster!!! There is a function that allows you to view the webpage in portrait or landscape. If the browser on the Instinct isnt fast enough for me, I will just download Opera Mini once again...this will be my backup for any phone I ever get!!!
