I called Tech Support today and basically all they came back with was that Plantronics devices were/are not compatible with the Instinct.  I countered that mine worked beautifully until this latest phone patch.  Several times I almost got through to them indicating that I had 2 ear pieces and had tried both with the same annoying results.  While friendly they absolutely refused to see that the common denominator here was the Instinct.  They claimed they spent lots of time looking at the Plantronics site looking for information and all they found, and thus all the could focus on, was that the Instinct was not listed as a compatible device.

Maybe it isn't, but it WAS until the latest patch.  That part of my input was not registering with them and after talking in circles with them for about 45 minutes I just gave up mumbling that maybe I would have to purchase another blue tooth ear piece.  However with this thread, especially kjohnny84's, I plan on calling back to let them know that others are indeed having similar/identical problems.

Thank you everyone for your time and your sharing.  It has helped me immensely.  Perhaps with this additional piece of data I might be able to convince them that Samsung just might be the device that is truly at fault.

Jay

I have 2 Plantronics Bluetooth headsets. While at work, I use the Plantronics PLT 510, which is connected to my Instinct and my landline work phone and doubles at the headset for both. I haven't had any problems yet. I also have a Plantronics "8xxPlantronics" (Device name from Instinct's Trusted Devices, I can't find the headset for the model #), which also works fine.

I'm not sure how Sprint determined Plantronics headsets incompatible, but I have proof to disagree. Maybe not ALL Plantronics headsets work with the Instinct, which i'm sure is the case with most phones, but's it's a lie to say that Plantronics headsets in general are incompatible with the Instinct.

My browser was crashing in and out of certain web site. Craigslist.com for example. Call *2. Which was useless, they don't know what the hell they are talking about. They keep telling me to take the battery out "soft reset" , setting>general>updata data profile. But It didn't work. After 15 minutes I told her I am just going leave it along. "Yea right" just wanna get off the phone. So this is what I did and IT WORK. Browser no longer crashing. I know it is a temp fix, but I don't care. I just wanna use my crappy browser.

ok ....
dial
##data#
RESTORE
enter your 6 digit MSL #
click DONE
click YES
and it will restart.

After restart, ALL MY Contact was there  Wink !!!!! Games was UNTOUCHED Wink
every setting was just before restore. Wink

So I click browser
type in Craigslist.com
AND IT WORK!!!!! NO more frezze half way, no more blink blink, no more the STUPID speed dial menu.

I will keep crossing my fingers to see how long before I have to restore again for the useless browser.
I hope this HELP you all ...... Grin

That fix would work great if we (most of us at least) knew what our MSL # even was.  If you go to the Sprint store and ask about it, they have no clue and the guys at tech support don't really want to give it to you since they know that we now know the codes to get into the heart of the phone (Somewhat).  I would gladly reset the phone using the above commands if I knew what the # was.  I don't think one number fits all on this one, if I'm correct, it's on an individual basis but I can be corrected if I'm wrong.

You are correct, everyone has a different MSL (Master Subsidy Lock) code. Here is an extensive thread on how to get said code. http://www.instinct-samsung.com/index.php/topic,1837.0.html

just an FYI on the infamous MSL code, I finally called up sprint technical support and said that I needed my msl code since my instinct required frequent resets and the MSL code would make this inconvenience less inconvenient.  I prefaced this with the "I know sprint doesn't like giving out msl codes, but..."  and he said no problem and gave me my msl code.  He also questioned where I heard that sprint doesn't give out msl codes.  So, go ask sprint for your msl code.

I've tried every solution presented in this and the related threads-- I've been working at it for the past hour or so. Nothing has worked. In fact, I'm getting a new error message when I try to update weather and/or news regarding an "undetected exception" or something of the sort.

This is absurd. I love so much about this phone, but it's getting to the point where it's useless to boast about features I can't even use. Sprint better get on this or it's going to lose a lot of customers.

I called Sprint a few days ago and asked for my MSL code and got it, no questions asked.  Give it a shot.  Smiley

I am currently on my second Instinct.  It already has a couple of hiccups.  I DO suggest if you have insurance to call tech support...have an e-ticket setup for you to take it into the store.  They may just re-flash your phone...and return it to factory settings.  The problem may persist, but the next time you take it in, you could ask for them to replace your original phone.  It the problem presents itself again on YOUR second phone...you could very well ask them to replace the phone with something else entirely.  HOWEVER, since Sprint really don't carry any other phone that is in the same category as the Instinct...you may end up stepping down to another phone.  Good on you if you can get Sprint to "upgrade" you to a smart device.

I'm an early adopter (19th June) of the Instinct...I have not had too many problems with the phone til recently.  I had the browser crashes...but I can live with that for awhile.  However, since these next round of updates, my phone has been crashing seemingly at random.  Phone locks up and then flashes to the speed dial screen.  Anyone else have the same issue?  Anyone know why this is happening....and how, if possible, to fix the issue.

Omg that's the same problem that I was having with the phone.I told the guy at sprint I didn't want another instinct phone because it was the second one I had since it came out. I also didn't want to have to bring it back in a month saying I'm having the same problems etc. So since I was assertive I was able to get the Blackberry Curve instead of getting another instinct. I do miss it at times but the Curve just does everything so right.

Well...since my last post...and before YOURS, Sprint is giving me a Mogul at a discounted price (less than new for you price.)  I am allowed to keep my second (practically brand new Instinct.)  I'm disappointed that the Instinct is not working out right now, BUT am excited to have a "smarter" device to use.

That's cool though. Its a shame that this phone(instinct) is so glitchy because I was really looking forward to it months before it even came out. Maybe when they make the second or third generation of the instinct it will be better you know.

All it will take is a couple of comprehensive updates...if they setup a bug-board and they actually verify the bugs reported...address and fix those bugs...we would have a kickass phone!  I would still be sporting this Instinct instead of switching to the Mogul
