I've just recently purchased an Instinct thru Bell, and am wondering why I did this (I haven't had it for 15 days/15 minutes yet... using my work phone until I get it figured out).

So far I've noticed...

-Horrible battery life
-Unusuable browser (even defaults to a page made for the HTC...?)
-NO support for gmail, outside of the browser, which doesn't really work
-8 dollars for hotmail
-8 dollars for gps
-8 dollars to turn the phone sideways... (a little exaggeration, but not by much)
-Very limited multimedia options with FUN20 bundle
-The NEWS is AMERICAN!
-The Facebook / YouTube apps I was waiting for turned out to be simple shortcuts to the browser.

Is there really anything after the initial funs wears off from the novelty of this phone?  I can see myself totally giving up on the browser, and still not able to access email.  Lemme know what you think, because I do like the idea of the phone, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered writing this msg.

At the same time, does anyone have any insight on new high end phones coming out from Bell.  And when. (i.e. HTC Touch Diamond, BB Bold, BB Thunder...).

Cheers.

Sorry for the double post in the Bell forum.  Though I would be able to delete it.

If you're already having doubts, then this topic that I created:

http://www.instinct-samsung.com/index.php/topic,3369.0.html

may give you more reason to return the phone. The txt msging and voicemail time stamps are wrong (i live on the west coast and received txts are 7 hrs ahead, and voicemail timestamp whenever I "miss" a voicemail call are shown as 7 hrs before!). Tech support is working on it...I figured it'd just be a simple internal time zone issue but they are taking longer than expected but at least when they fix this I'm sure it'll come thru in a firmware update where you can just download it from your phone.

You're right about the browser sucking. Maybe in the future we can upgrade to a diff browser like Opera?

I like the phone simply because it looks cool, easy access to different functions, and I have a great plan. THe browser is not great but then browsing isn't my main concern. Push email isn't my main concern either (although I have a shortcut to gmail on my "Favs"). GPS I rarely use anyway, so if I ever needed to use it I'd just pay the $3.50 for the day. I am pissed that they can't even include GPS as part of the unlimited internet plan...that's f***in ridiculous. Live TV and Radio I have no use for although it'd be cool but then there's no way I'm paying for that.

I guess I haven't really given much reason to keep the Instinct. I had the LG Shine before and it SUCKED BALLS so they phone beats the Shine in EVERY aspect. The touch screen is cool, the easy accessibility to Notepad, calculator and other functions is cool, the mp3 player and vid player is sweet. I only paid about $60 for the Instinct (because I got a $200 Hardware upgrade credit, sold my shine for $150, and got $100 credit on my bill ---- gotta love customer retention)

Plus this is a samsung phone...I had the a920 before the shine and it was an amazing phone, then the shine pissed me off so I got the instinct. I guess it's the realization that LG sucks ass and Samsung rocks that makes me like this phone.

I upgraded from the a920.  Looks like I will be going back to it until Bell gets something better.  No one can give me a straight answer on what Bell will be releasing in the future (read - before Christmas) so Im just going to have to wait.

Not to be rude

But hope bell works on fixing some of the issues for their current phone before releasing more
they should get these current phones working to higher standards then they are now

But in a world driven by money, bell will have something new out by x mas

For the most part, a phone is what it is from the manufacturer.  The service provider can manipulate the phones capabilities though updates, but how much of that actually originates from the company itself?

Either way, if a device is fundamentally lacking for a particular individual (or many, as I have discovered after reading through the forums). I dont believe a firmware update will save it.  Its not like time stamps are the only thing people are complaining about here.

Dont get me wrong... when compared to similarly priced phones, the Instinct offers much more.  It just misses on a few key areas with me, like a browser that will not take years off my life.  Smiley

And what are these forums if not a place of reference for those looking to buy a new phone along with those who already have one?

yeah if you're not satisfied you should definitely go back to the a920....that phone was amazing the 2 years that I had it. I'm not sure if you paid full price for the Instinct (or perhaps received a hardware upgrade credit but still paid $200+) but I would rather have the Instinct than the A920. Everything the A920 could do, the instinct could do better and it has a bigger screen. I guess I'm saying this because I didn't pay much for the Instinct, but yeah if you paid $200+ for the Instinct and not satisfied with the features that the instinct should have that the a920 doesn't, then definitely switch back.

Bell is really annoying me with all their extra costs to use the various features. Why not just make it clear from the start instead of surprising us with these extra costs...

I agree that the Instinct can do everything the a920 can do.  However, I was looking for an upgrade in features, such as POP3 access to my gmail, and a better web browser.  As of now, Opera works better on the a920!  I used up all my credits (which were maxed out) and payed 250 for the phone (I am on a corporate plan, so I don't get any other discounts).

So, basically I paid full price, and I would rather have that money go against something better when it comes out (i.e. if Bell decides to carry the HTC Touch Diamond, or eventually the BB Thunder).
