I got it to work on my Macbook

Here are the steps:

1. Make sure the bluetooth is on for your laptop and phone.

2. Go under the bluetooth menu and select "Set up bluetooth Device"

3. Go through the normal motions until it asks you for your user name and such.

4. Do not put anything for Username, password or Phone number. Select "Sprint Sierra WWAN Support" as the Modem Script. Show bluetooth status in the menu bar as well as the modem status. Continue and Quit.

5. Open Internet connect and select the bluetooth tab.

6. For telephone number, type in #777 and nothing for Account Name and Password.

7. Press connect and it should work.

Btw, does this process cost anything? (using your phone as a modem)

If you pay the additional $15/month fee, you can have the phone as a modem.  PAM is not part of the "everything" plan.

does anyone know if an external bluetooth adapter might solve my issue. I also read i need modem support for bluetooth. an external adapter says it has DUN capabilities, does that mean it would provide the modem support or is that something i need from microsoft BT Stack or toshiba's stack driverS?

I use my phone as pam and sprint never charged me any extra charges on my bill. The reason i think is cuz they dont know that u can use the instinct as pam. Plus i think that if u have the unlimited plan that it should mean everything is unlimited.

Sooo....why can't you call them up and tell them u want to be charged 15 bucks more? Who cares if they dont want u to use it. It works. I called them to ask about it, they wanted to get me on a blackberry. They said i have to pay for a  normal plan...then add the 15? I just started using it, and if they charge me one cent I'm telling them to kiss my butt and I'm just getting an iphone(which has PAM). I have unlimited data...why would i need to pay more anyway?

I just got upgraded to the new s30... I was using my old instinct as PAM. Can I use the same MSID with the new phone or is it different?

The MSL (not MSID) is a 6 digit number associated with your account. It follows the account holder not the phone. You should be able to use it without any problems.

Just go into the ##DEBUGMENU# option and if you change the NAI option (if it exists on the s30) it will ask you for your MSL.

Viola.

If I remember correctly, there are some problems getting an s30 to PAM.  There's a thread about around here somewhere...

so yea, i have been tethering my instinct for @ 10 monthes. "another thread on this site tell all" it's a greta how to. but anyway, my device had some major issues and was replaced. dang it sprint, the updated firmware disabbles the PAM function unless your Sprint rate code identifies you as having paid for such service. the local Sprint store dude i deal with keeps me informed, and hooked up. befriend a store rep and all things will be good. my guy, called CS and asked them to change my rate code to include PAM in my plan per the store mngr.
