Chicago area is blazing fast, 3g pretty much everywhere in the greater city area.  We even are lucky enough to be one of the first cities for wimax/4g

I get 3g every where but at the office. That's fine with me because I'm on the road 80% of the day.  Gotta love the Gulf Coast!! Smiley

Funny its on the poll because the instinct does not do 4g.  I thought that 4g was for home internet service, and the pre.

i mean is there a way to tell?? I have good speed i believe and believe to be in 3G all the time here in Memphis but i notice on some phones it will actually display that you are in 3G coverage.  The Instinct doesnt have that right?

If you're in a 3G area, you will have the double data arrows.

Yep, double arrows for 3g.  Single arrows for 2g.  I guess no arrows only bars for 1g?  Does any carrier still use 1g?

I think Sprint's 1xRTT is technically 2.5G.  I think all carriers are up to that standard now, but i've never really looked it up.

are you guys talking about the data arrows?  I never knew the different ones meant different things...

well, everywhere in my house and on the road in town I get 3 arrows, every so often it'll drop down to 1 arrow if its taking too long (assuming changing towers or something).  but in my house, mobile speed test clocks my phone at 11mbps and testmyiphone clocks it at 9mbps (11 through Opera, 9 Instinct browser).  but when I PAM, I test only at 3mbps....oh well still plenty fast, especially since I only use it at my mom's house because she doesn't have internet.

We're not talking about the yellow signal strength indicator, we're talking about the 2 white arrows beside it.  Those are the data arrows.

The Double arrows mean you're in 3g, the single arrows mean 1xRTT.

those are the ones I was referring to.  they "blink" showing direction of data, when my 3g hangs, it switches to the single arrows and connects.

like I said though, I didn't know they actually meant anything by the number of arrow heads...learn something new everyday.
