I am in Orlando, Florida and I always have the double arrows so I guess I am always on 3G.

We're not talking about the yellow signal strength indicator, we're talking about the 2 white arrows beside it.  Those are the data arrows.

The Double arrows mean you're in 3g, the single arrows mean 1xRTT.

those are the ones I was referring to.  they "blink" showing direction of data, when my 3g hangs, it switches to the single arrows and connects.

like I said though, I didn't know they actually meant anything by the number of arrow heads...learn something new everyday.

Yeah man, the size of the head makes ALL of the difference in the world...

So, trying to get this CD17 update in my crappy coverage area is a KILLER!!!   police

I got to 25% about a dozen times (which takes about 20 minutes) and then my battery didn't have enough juice left to update the software...

Yeah, I don't think the phone hardware is capable of higher speeds than +/- 3G.  It is interesting to see who has the 4G in their areas though.

Wow z....
Im sitting here reading the post and i am like.... how do you tell if your in 3g...
low and behold the next post....z is there with the answer... sooooooo...cookie for you.
thanks for your general knowledge.

Anywho.... Im on Long Island, (for the not so direction oriented people that is in New York) And i get steady 3G... to be quite honest I have never seen it go to one arrow. (not to say I watch those arrows I knew nothing about)
I have always argued that my browser, dowlnload, and pocket express speeds were really fast. In most cases I loaded up quicker than my friends I-Phone and my other friends G1, seriously. So I can come up with the intelligent answer and say it all depends on your location, but thanks to the smart people who write on this forum I have seen a hack where you can change the tower you receive and send from. That may help some of you. However if it does not I do offer my sincere apologies and thank you for choosing "the nations largest 3G network" LMAO.

Well, to update, in the South East I'm starting to get Power Vision on an occasion.  I don't know if I'm stealing (roaming) from Verizon's towers or if Sprint is actually turning theirs over.  It actually causes more harm than good, though.  Most of the time when my m800 flips between 3G & 1G, I lose the data connection completely...

I'm in Jemison, Alabama and all throughout my county (Chilton) I've never been able to acquire signal. No lie, the most I've gotten through here is ONE BAR, and even that's rare.
