I took apicture of a Double rainbow doing 55 miles per hour  and I thought it came out great.

I have a nice Dig cam for real shots but this will work great for those quick shots and the Video is not bad at all either.

I used it to take pix of damage when a tree smashed my 12day old car due to a microburst.

The camera is not bad, but as mention above its is secondary function.  I noticed that lighting conditions are a Big Factor, but This is always the case with phone cameras.  Keep the lens clean and adjust accordingly.  Could they have added more features?  Yeah a couple, but I have to play with it more to form an Honest opinion.

Your stupid if you say the camera sucks. its a normal 2.0 megapixel camera, its very decent for the pictures ive taken myself.

Also, for the guy with the car pics, Sorry about your car man but umm those pictures you took, how did you manage to change the resolution of the picture to make it that size on the phone?

Why is it that anyone that comments on the negatives of this phone gets flamed here? What's wrong with all of you. It's like he's insulting your mom's cooking or something. Get a grip. This phone was hyped to be the iphone KILLER, so it's pretty understandable that there's going to be some critique. The camera does suck. It's not the 5megapickle like the f480 or a few other phones coming out from samsung, it has no flash, it's grainy as hell unless it's pure daylight... so yes, I think it's reasonable to mention the bad camera. Yes, it takes pictures, and decent ones in daylight, but so did my pos phone from 2001.

And when people say, get a digital camera then.... WTF??? Really? And what, tape it to the back of the phone "flight of the conchords" style?

Yeah, I've got a Nikon DSLR that I take my good pictures with, but knowing the technology is out there, and being used by Samsung on other phones, you'd think they'd use the good stuff for the big iphone KILLER.

this is a picture I took with my sister's iPhone

indoor lighting, my phone has never taken a picture as clear as that.

even the outdoor/daylight lighting photos of that accord don't look that good.

+1

i have a D200 that i use for events, along with an XL1s for video, so i'm big on cameras. The camera obviously isn't a dealbreaker, but it'd be nice to have a better performer. it'll do in a pinch, but even my PPC6700 with its 1.3MP camera took sharper photos.

here's some shots from the instinct's camera -- indoor and outdoor lighting -- even out in the sun the pictures still don't look as good as the competition. the pictures, even in daylight, come out soft and noisy.

all in all, even with all the minor annoyances in this phone [of which there are many, and which will hopefully get addressed in future OS/software updates] the pros outweigh the cons.

I spoke to a Sprint Rep about the Camera having grainy issues and he told me that there is going to be a major software update for the instinct soon fixing up alot of issues, including issues with the camera.
