Had the same problem after I let someone browse my phone (which I'll NEVER do again). I put the card in the adapter and in the computer and they were still on there, just not when i put it in the phone. There was an extra camera folder (camera and camera(1)). I tried putting all the pics in the camera folder and deleting camera (1) and now my computer will not even read the card. I think I corrupted the files or something. I can still save new pics, videos, music, etc from the phone, but i'ma buy a new card anyway. I can only put new music on it if I send it thru email and download the attachment from the phone. That sucks.

Many people have encountered an issue where the phone corrupts a DCIM folder, causing it to no longer appear in the phone.  Also you don't have to do anything funky to get this to occur.  You can also run into an issue where the phone tries to read the thumbnails for a DCIM folder for a very, very long time.  It took 10 minutes before I could click on a folder in My Photos without getting a "system busy" error (or you can soft reset).  So buying a new card might be a bit drastic.  I would just copy the pics to a new folder on a PC and delete the old folder.  Of course if the card doesn't read at all you'd have to format it.
