I completely agree!  I shattered the screen of my original Instinct and
"upgraded" to the s30...  No online videos, and the videos I send to my phone via bluetooth are placed in the other or misc folder and there is no way to navigate to them.   Not very happy with the s30

go to instinct-software.com and buy File Explorer and you should be able to move the files from the other/misc folder to the MEDIA folder....just make sure the videos are MP4 or 3GPP so try that..... IF that doesn't work download BT File Manager from getjar and use that program. I suggest buying the file explorer from instinct-software.com because we should back up and support our developers. So have fun let  us know how it goes!

Hi everyone. I'm really new to the Instinct. Just got mine a couple of days ago, so I haven't mastered it...yet Smiley  I had a lot of converted movies on my PC from my personal DVD collection that I had converted to Avi format to play on my PDA. The info on that process is at this linkhttp://www.mobilitysite.com/boards/multimedia/70567-how-encode-videos-your-pda-free-both-320x240-640x480-update-2-13-06-a.html.   Anyway once you have converted your own DVD's to AVI files there is a program called "OJO soft total video converter" that you can download for only like 26 bucks. This converter will quickly convert the AVI files into the needed 3GPP2 format for the Instinct. Next I just put my Instincts micro chip directly into my PC's card reader and drop the newly converted files into the folder marked "camera." That way when its back in the instinct, you just go to "TV/Video" app, click on "My Videos," and then click on "Camcorder." It will display all of your movie files. They are small enough that you can fit around ten on a 2G card. Good luck all.
There's hope at the Cross.

It's very simple to get videos on your s30 and play them.  I used the software from www.slysoft.com called AnyDVD and you'll need CloneDVD Mobile.  This combo will allow you to rip your OWN  police legal  police DVD collection to almost any mobile format.

Anyways, I've made a large collection of full length DVD movies for my iPod in mp4 format.  Using CloneDVD Mobile's standard setting for the Apple iPod... using the 320x240 with over 600kbps encoding.  After that, using a PC, I copied the files directly to microSD card to a folder (directory) on the root called MEDIA...

The reason I tried it was, on Sprint's support page for the s30 there is nice tutorial section.  Under the Micro SD Card section there is the link "Copy / Move Files/Apps" and as you click through the steps it specificly shows coping files in mp4 format each called videox (IE: video1, video2, ect).

From there all you need to do is start up touch "Fun" then "TV/Video" and select "My Videos" and select "Slidloaded" and select the video you want to watch.  With 16gig microSD cards at $100 or less you can pack about 20 or so full length movies (depending on the encoding video quality... the kbps values) with room for mp3's and pics...  Grin

I watched the Incredibles in "full screen" (all my videos are ripped as full screen for my video iPod) with sound.  I might try ripping a widescreen movie to check out how it looks on the s30.   Wink

That's it...

There doesn't seem to be an official list of supported file formats but I can confirm the mp4 & 3GP file formats play fine.

I think I finally figured it out!..There's 2 programs I used, (there not pirated, for all the admin GODS out there, sheeesh  police) The first one I used was called, "DVDFAB." they give you a free 30 day trial of the software then you can buy it for $60 I think. It's worth the money! but if you don't want to buy it, then convert as many movies as you can within 30 days. Use the I-pod Mp4 format.. Once that is done, download a free program called, "VIO Mobile Video Converter" (google it) Once you download that, open it up, click on browse and locate the dvd you converted using dvd fab (It should be in a folder in your documents called DVDFAB) Once you located that, look on the left and you will see something called, "Optimized For" I chose Samsung i900, (I'm currently trying different formats to see which one is the best, but this one worked fine) then click on "Convert Video." You dont have to change the settings or anything. Once that is done, hook your phone up to the computer, and transfer the file directly from VIO to your phone. Once that is done, you should have a file on your phone that say's (movie name) M.MP4 and it should play. I just found this out on my own and it worked on my phone, and I'm in the middle of trying other formats, so if anything changes I'll update the forum...

That's if I'm not banned lol... angel

I have converted some TV episodes (.avi files) to MP4 files to put on my S30.  I put them in the media folder and go to "sideloaded" on the phone to play the shows, but when I try to play them it just says "Sorry, this channel is temporarily unavailable.  Please try again later.  Video Error."  Why is this not working?  I followed this procedure...

http://www.instinct-samsung.com/how-to/put-video%27s-on-instinct-using-any-video-converter-also-from-youtube!/

Any help is appreciated.. thanks.

You've got one setting off in the mp4 conversion probably.  I've had that happen before too.  I tried changing a few settings in the conversion process and they played fine then.

Well I ran into a different issue.  I have an M800, and my X had been upgraded to an s30 (chuckles) before she split from both of us. (Sprint and Me).

Well my daughter wanted an mp3/video player.  I realized that my m800 is actually a pretty nice mp3/video player.  We listen to music and watch some of our favorite shows on it. So I told her mom to give me the s30 back and I'd just put it in airplane mode, and let the girl have it.

I use format factory to convert my video over to an mp4 format that my m800 likes.  It seems that that format doesn't exactly work for the s30 though.  I have some movies on a micro-SD card that plays fine in my m800.  When i move that same card to my s30, it either shows the loading ring forever, or it shows the video list, but gives me an error message when I try to play them.  It's the same msg I would get with the m800, before I figured out the proper codec/format for the video conversion.

So, all that to say, I need to figure out the details to converting video to work on the s30.  I'm hoping it's a format that will work on both.  I actually swap out SD cards, when i have the kids.  I keep one 2G for music and pictures, and a 4G for movies/cartoons.  I'd like to keep their 2G in the s30 for their stuff, but be able to swap the cards around if needed, for breakage/battery issues.

Try these setting in f/f...

all to mobile devices

psp 368x208 MPEG4 widescreen
then change these settings

Video Stream

320x240 standard
Bitrate 512
FPS 30

Audio Stream

Sample Rate ( HZ ) 44100
Bitrate ( KB/s ) 128 or 192
Volume Control ( +dB ) 6 or higher

Select " Ok " at the top right
Then " Ok " again
Then " Start "

Should work

Well thanks for the advice. I've been testing different formats today, while working. Probably converted this tv show 10 times already.  1/2 of them worked on the m800, none on the s30.

I use format factory for my m800 i use
mp4 Mpeg4(DivX) 400x240, 384 Bitrate, 24 FPS, AAC 48,000 Hz, 128 bitrate, 2 channel.
Looks great too.

What you recommend here is also the DivX Encoding so I'm surprised it didnt' work the way I was doing it.  It seems to be the pixels.  I've tried the exact same thing here that you recommend, except I bumped it to 400x240 standard, and it didn't work.

Shame, but I'm sure she'll make due with 320x240 until i can figure something else out.

Thanks again for your input, it has definitely helped.

Well it's an mp4, it's using the mpeg4 (Div X) encoding/codec rather than the Xvid mp4 encoding.

I don't think the Xvid mp4 would work on my m800, only the DivX.  There was another mp4 encoding i don't believe worked.

I'm just shocked that we can't get the same viewing range on the s30. Such a shame.  I had high hopes for this little brick.  I'm sure my daughter will still be happy, but I was hoping to be able to freely swap my video's between phones.

Now I have to choose before reducing them for both phones, or limiting her to a single SD card with only her stuff.

I think she's about to be exiled.. Smiley
