I gotta say this is a disappointment.  Embarrassed

If the browser sucks then why would I get one?

kcolbe,  I 100% agree.  The phone seems great except the web browser.  Very disappointing to me as well.  That review is enough for me to wait a few weeks and see for myself how bad it really sucks.  Also, what about streaming tv? Maybe I overlooked but I didnt see anything about watching live tv in that article.  I hate to leave sprint but if the browser doesn’t work than it looks like i will be going to the dark side for iphone 2.0.

I'm not that worried because sprint is supporting user created apps which gives alot of hope to better web browser applications. And the truth is iphone's browser is amazing i didn't really expect the instinct to beat it i just want something thats somewhat comparable for sprint. This review is pretty much what i expected.

If I'm going to pay $200-$300 + for a phone, I want the best. And we will all find out today (or soon after) if Apple's new IPhone will have a subsidized price tag (allow for rebates etc.).  Visit http://www.macrumors.com/iphone/ for more information.  If they do, and I can get a new IPhone with 3G, WiFi etc. for under $300 after rebates, I will terminate my contract with Sprint and go with AT&T.  The IPhone supports user created apps also and with as long as it's already been out, they have a big head start on available apps.  I'm sure the IPhone 2.0 will be compatible with 95% of the already created apps.

The browser doesn't support javascript and the email client only supports plain text email?  I'm sorry but those are two BIG blows against the Instinct.  This phone is no IPhone killer by any stretch of the imagination.

Well the 3g iphone is out for 199.00 on July 11th.  With 3G, GPS mapping, support for enterprise features like Microsoft Exchange, and new Apps it just blows the instinct away.  Along with that review I've given up hope for sprint.  Too little too late....

What about an open-source version of Firefox on the Instinct?

Thats the attitude I like to see Smiley  I really do think that with the release of iphone info today.. that Samsung/Sprint will definitely take into consideration what htey have seen and make adjustments to their product and price accordingly

Man I hope the Instinct can get a better browser.  I've read (maybe on this forum) about the Opera Mini Browser which is supposed to be sweet.  I want to load a webpage like the iPhone does... that's my only knock against the Instinct.

Other than that, I think this phone will be pretty cool.

The iphone is a great phone and i wanted one pretty bad. But after doing my research its just not worth it. First of all i feel like its more of a toy then a phone which means i will get bored with it eventually. Second of all the only thing it beats on the instinct is the screen and the browser. And the browser for the instinct can be fixed through updates or user created apps. And the screen isnt bad its just not multi touch. Now even though the new iphone has GPS the instincts gps will still be better as its one of the best available and they have been working on it alot longer than apple has. You still cant record video on the iphone as far as i know without hacking it which is stupid. Sprint radio and TV are great i just used them today on my old A900 and i was just wishing i had the new instinct so i could enjoy them on a bigger screen with a better speaker.

Also the email isnt plain text it just doesn't show pictures which does suck but links in the email still work so its not horrible. The whole lack of IM thing is an easy fix through software and will probably be available soon. Also as far as the new iphones 199 price it seems that at&t will update their price for data to an extra 30 a month instead of the current 20 so if you figure that over the 2 year contract the cost of the iphone is actually 439.99 for the 8gb version. It was smart of apple and at&t because it looks like a great deal but your actually spending $40 bucks more. of course thats over 24 months.

But yeah the final thing we all need to do is remember the fact that these last two weeks are when the instinct will be fine tuned so lets just hope that they handle their s*** and do it right. Also if i remember correctly the instinct has the ability to notify you of updates available for the phone which could mean that if their are problems sprint can have them fixed quickly through an update through the internet which is pretty awesome.

Edit: The iphone also beats the instinct in picture loading times (this doesnt matter to me but it might to you) and of course in its video player/ music loading times (not quality)  but thats not a big deal to me and thats also what my video ipod is for. Im getting the isntinct because its a phone with cool extras and its on sprint.

I definitely want to go with Sprint, but what about the new HTC Touch Pro (there are like 3 different kinds).  That seems like a sweet phone and it has Microsoft Mobile... which I know there's been a lot of bad things said about it, but it still seems sweet.

That doesn't make much sense, sorry.

Second of all the only thing it beats on the instinct is the screen and the browser.

Don't forget email, WiFi, 8GB built in storage (don't have to buy a bigger card) and Exchange ActiveSync.

You can't say this until you use both of them.  I highly doubt Apple would release a GPS navigation system that sucked.

Actually the email accepted on the Instinct is plain/text only.  There are only 2 types of email today...HTML and plain/text.  The Instinct does not support HTML email.

AT&T's data/talk plan is currently $59.  The cheapest Everything Plan from Sprint is currently $69.  When AT&T raises their price to $69 for data and phone, it will be the same as Sprint's cheapest Everything Plan.

I'm by no means an advocate of Apple.  In fact, I've been a Sprint customer for almost 8 years.  I must say, however, the Instinct isn't even on the same playing field as the IPhone.  As of July 11 I will no longer be with Sprint.  I'm very happy to see someone has finally created a phone that can do everything...and well.  I'm just sad to say it's not Sprint.
