Samsung Instinct
by: Michael Dalonzo on 6.27.2008 at 12:02 am

On today's Gadget Pr0n, we objectify the Samsung Instinct, a shiny new phone that's carrying a ton of features.

What You Need to Know

    * The touch screen is really great
    * Scrolling and selecting problems prominent on other touch screens are not at all on this phone; if anything it's a little more sensitive than the iPhone in a good way
    * Haptic feedback
    * The main problem is the 3 touch buttons on the bottom of the phone; they don't always register a touch and become annoying
    * It also feels plasticy; touching glass feels a lot better.
    * It's got kind of a future retro look
    * Just a little thicker than the iPhone but weighs less
    * The screen size is a little smaller too, and the display may get cramped
    * The keyboard is only in landscape mode, and it doesn't correct your spelling, which may be a good or a bad thing
    * You can also write with the stylus in graffiti mode
    * Not having Wi-Fi is a big deal, but everything else is pretty much the same
    * EVDO Revision A web browsing is a bit faster than even the new 3G iPhone, but the browser itself isn't as easy as Safari
    * 2 megapixel camera with very little options, but it can record video
    * Stereo Bluetooth
    * Built-in GPS with Sprint Navigation works great
    * 2 gigabyte Micro-SD card upgradeable to 8 gigs
    * It's an excellent buy for people on Sprint
    * There's really nothing wrong with this device; if i hadn't seen the iPhone, it would be the phone to beat

Price

    * $129 plus a minimum $70 a month contract

Overall Rating

    * 91%

Funny how Iphone biased this review is, and factually inaccurate and misleading.  The Iphone worshipers obviously can't stand to be bested...

I disagree with you. I think they gave a good unbiased review of the Instinct. 91% overall rating. I would say that is pretty good. Both phones have their ups and downs. I feel when the iPhone first came out it raised the bar for a lot of the other manufactures and now we are reaping the benefits. Just look at what we have now, the Samsung Instinct.

If you think it was impartial, you obviously didnt watch the video.  It's laughable how far these guys have the Iphone stuck up their asses.  If it was really fair, the Instinct would get a 97% and the Iphone a 91%.  They treat design like its the only aspect of a phone that matter.  And the stuff about the touch problems are just down right b.s.  Watch the video, sir.

LoL I like how the retard didn't take the time to figure out that if you click one button the keyboard can go the other way.  This just shows how incompetent some reviewers are and this is exactly why for most things I don't listen to the reviews.

hmmm... all of you who are saying they are biased towards the iphone sound a bit biased towards the instinct.  lol

i always thought of the iphone as pretty fruity looking with all the vibrant colors and fancy schmancy UI... just really not appealing to me (nor at&t).

while i really like the instinct, its far from a 97% and i think 91% is a fair score.  there are ALOT of bugs on the instinct that needs to be addressed.  until those bugs and kinks are worked out, i think 91% is actually pretty generous.

Nothing wrong with mentioning the iPhone, or comparing it to the iPhone.

Sprint has caused this type of reaction because they are the ones who were promoting this as an "iPhone Killer"

I don't see anything wrong with the video...I think that the review was decent, and the guest speaker mentioned a lot of good features of the Instinct, even when the host kept trying to compare it to the iPhone.

QUIT CALLING THIS AN IPHONE KILLER!!  It's one of Sprint's best phones, but that's it!

Obviously no one here has watched attack of the show before.

kevin the host has an iphone as well as the other guy and they both love it. Attack of the show is the place to be for all the latest gadgets and tech news so there reviews are normally pretty good. I was actually surprised they didn't bash the phone more. The were very honest they said it is a great phone when not compared to the iphone which it is. The said the bottom buttons are not as responsive as the screen which is true. They also complimented the main screen and said it was pretty smooth and sensitive. They were right about he plastic feel of the phone compared to the iphones glass. And finally they were very polite when saying the browser wasnt great they could have easily bashed the phone for that feature alone and im surprised they didnt.

All and all it was a great review and if you though it was overly biased you apparently have something against the iphone its a great phone. Still like they said this is the best phone if your on sprint. My instinct is great aside form the browser.

Apparently at least one person has gotten a host of updates to their phone: broswer, tv/video, voicemail, other things and he says that "Its a huge improvement!", referring to browser in his post...  So I think we all have something wonderful to look forward to in the near future.
Search "update", look for the topic "Did anyone see a change today..."

for the guy that was saying the 3 bottons dont always respond, the answer is yes they do.
 You have to calabirate the screen. to do this go to settings and the in the settings there will be calibarate just click on that and follow the steps, if you ever owned a touch screen before you should know this.

No spell check?  Funny, all of my misspelled words show up as red and underlined.  Then when you touch them it suggests spellings.  Also has an option to add words, like nicknames or slang.  This kid must have played with it for 5 minutes before walking out to review...
