~Plug in your USB to computer, put other end in phone.
Go to Main Screen
Go to Settings
Go to General
Switch Connect to PC to ON
It will then say on phone Connection to Computer
Then it will open up the next drive letter available to you (ex: if your DVD drive is F then it will come up as E) Mine says beside it COREMICRO2G.

Open that and there will be 5 Folders
Music folder is pretty general, just drag and drop your music files/albums to that directory.
If you want to put in pictures you go into DCIM, then select Saved.
If you want to upload a video it has to Specifically be in 3GPP2 format, I just load them to the Camera directory after converting them.

~To convert a movie file from MPG/AVI or what ever you can use Apex Free 3GP (Link Below)
http://www.download.com/Freez-3GP-Video-Converter/3000-2194_4-10673250.html?tag=mncol

Install program in open it.
First off specify where you want the saved file to go in the Output directory.
Click ADD, select file you want.
Under File Format, change to 3GPP2, then change Video quality to High (That's the one I use most)
This will cut the file size down by around 10x! (Might take a few minutes to convert)

When your done drag & drop it into the DCIM/CAMERA folder.
It will show up under your Camera gallery on the phone.

I know some of this was a little too basic, but this way you can't possibly go wrong.
There is probably better ways of doing things and shortcuts, if so give me a heads up.

Good luck,
Hopefully you won't need it!

Ok my conversion rate wasn't the best, but did successfully convert the Ironman movie from 700mb down to 400mb. Still, not too shabby!

I go to setting>general but don't see "connect to computer: on, off". I've looked in all other areas within settings>general and haven't found a "connect to PC" choice yet. Help please.

Under Output Type change to 3G2, this will convert it to 3GPP2 so your phone can use it.
This will cut the file size down by least 4x. Takes a while to convert though.

It will show up under your Camera gallery on the phone.

That is because he has either the Telus or Bell Instinct In Canada. Because of that, this is being moved to the Canadian board.

Alternatively you can use the sprint media manager to manage photos and videos on your Instinct.

Negative. I'm a US citizen. I bought my Instinct at Best Buy. Sprint is my service provider.

I went to the Sprint website and downloaded the newest software and this still doesn't work. After 5 seconds of the phone displaying "connected to computer" it then switches back to the regular Main Menu and proceeds to use the USB connect as a charging device.

If you are in the U.S. on Sprint, then you can use the media manager software that came with your Instinct, and you don't have to use the file transfer method.

Up here in Canada we didn't get any software with our Instincts, so we're feeling our way around in the dark.

The easiest way, for those of us in Canada, is if you can use a card reader with your computer. The memory card can be synched with Windows Media Player and you can transfer media that way.

*ahem*, i just posted how to get the media manager two posts up. It works great for me. I didn't like the direct file access that much.

I am with Bell and I downloaded the Sprint Media Manager and am running it on a Windows XP machine and a Vista machine.

I found that I first had to select the connect to computer under General Settings on the Canuck phone and then run the Media Manager for it to recognize the phone.

Cheers

It should save wherever your save directory is specified. Some, not all, will fail when you try to convert for some reason. Double check to make sure they are actually completing.
