Yes, the problem is global. Its not a bell problem or a sprint problem, its a samsung problem. But the makers of opera are supposedly working for a solution.

I think you misunderstood the first post in this thread. We, Canadians, can't even install Opera. U.S. folks have not reported any installation problems anywhere I've seen.

What you probably are referring to is the missing keyboard implementation which is completely different.

Just press and hold the screen and the "OK" button will be pressed, simple. Anywhere really.

Does not work. I pressed and held for at lest 20 seconds on various spots on the screen. Nothing.

If you look at BoryslavF's name, it says he lives in San Fransico, therefore he has a Sprint version of the Instinct. That is why he is able to get it to work.

Ok so i managed to install Opera 4.1 on my Canadian version of the Instunct. Now we, Canadians, have the same problems as our neighbors to the south - Keyboard. You can only launch Opera 4.1 once - the first time you install it. Every time afterwards it would hang at load time at 75%. Regardless, at least we CAN install apps.

Basically i just followed mhousser's installation instructions from http://www.instinct-samsung.com/index.php/topic,3393.0.html

I went to http://www.getjar.com/software/Java/All
Downloaded Opera 4.1 jar to my hard drive.
Then went to http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/ and uploaded the jar file to XXXXXXXXXX@txt.bell.ca where X's are your phone number.
Then your phone will get an SMS with a link, just follow the link and the installation will be fine.

By the way, when I tried running Opera 4.1, it was LIGHTNING FAST compared to the built in browser.

It really is amazing how much faster and better-rendered it is. Here's hoping we get keyboard support in the near future.

In the States, if you install opera mini version 3.1 it doesn't freeze.  Just 4.1.  Give it a try.

Opera mini 3.1 (MIDP2 version) does indeed work in the Canadian Instinct. Here is how:

Download http://mini.opera.com/dl/m32QoX02OQ2nZ943VMYAABwcDw8C/mini.jar  to your computer and follow the instructions 3 posts above this to install on your phone.

To get a workaround for keyboard issue, follow the instructions here: http://wapreview.com/blog/wp-mobile.php?p=596&page=2

BTW, using a stencil or a pen to press buttons works better than your finger.

You can install Opera Mini 4.1 or 3.1 High Memory versions on the instinct by following my instructions above. Opera 3.1 Low Memory will not work.

Interesting. It does work, as airbag says, but the WAP keyboard workaround is painfully slow. Each time a character is inputted, the page reloads itself. On the plus side, once you get to a page you can bookmark it for easy access later.

Otherwise, browsing in Opera Mini is a dream compared to the on-board. You will need a stylus, though, since text (and therefore links) are much smaller.
