Bitpim can't find my Instict

Im trying to use bitpim to modify my phone so I can use mgmaps to the fullest but im not exactly sure what im doing. I can't get bitpim to find my phone. Please help

just plug in the phone with the data cable...don't slide the button in the phone to connect to phone. try that. also, make sure you turn off bitpim before unplugging cable.

i have the same problem and tried this solution but my computer doesnt even recongnize my phone

install the sprint phone manager...then restart your computer, look for other cdma phone, should work
plug in phone, dont connect phone to computer with slider in options of phone
just plug it in.

do i need the flash card inside in order for the computer to recognize the phone??

i am getting a new memory card so i dont have one right now and i've tried everything but my computer still doesnt recognize the phone the only thing i can think of is that i need the memory card in
