The video is really good.  It does the same thing as the written instructions I had read previously.

It does, lol...Just figured I'd throw it in, since it's out there for everyone.
Meant no disrespect to the thread, more visual for those wanting to see it done...

As far as instructions go, I think some people prefer to see them in print.  However, it's nice to see how quickly things can get done, and the video shows that.

I don't believe anyone took your note as disrespectful.

I just found out from reading in another forum that if you have your Instinct paired with your Mac via Bluetooth, there is no need to enter any codes at all or hack the Instinct in order to use it as a modem.  I tried it twice and connected my MacBook Air instantly with the Instinct via Bluetooth.  As I said, all you need is to pair up your Instinct and Mac.  Once that's done, you can then connect the Mac to the Instinct via Bluetooth.  The phone number given (#777) is the same.  There's no need to enter account name or password.

I've tried connecting via Bluetooth several times following your instructions exactly. Each time I get an error message from Sprint saying my user name and/or password are incorrect.

Do you have to go through the process in the video of entering the MSL code before you can use the phone as a modem at all, whether via Bluetooth or USB?

BTW, if you haven't guessed by now, I got my Instinct for Christmas :-)

I'm using the Instinct as a modem right now.   I'm using the USB method since it keeps my phone charged.  However, if you prefer Bluetooth, try first mounting your Instinct on your desktop.  Then, when you see your Instinct mounted, follow the directions above to see if you can connect.  That works for me.

I'm not sure what you mean by "mounting your Instinct on your desktop." Do you mean connecting it with the USB cable and THEN connecting via Bluetooth?

Also, I'm still not clear on whether it's a necessity to use go through the process of getting and entering the MSL code before it will work as a modem at all (from what I've read it seems that SOME people have said that process isn't necessary. If it IS, then that's the reason it's not working, because I've not done that. )

Mounting means making your SD card appear on the desktop of your Mac.

It is not necessary to get the MSL code to use your Instinct as modem.  What I wrote in "reply #33" above is just what it takes.

Okay, I did exactly what you said (mounted the SD card, then tried to connect via Bluetooth). First I got a message on my Instinct saying "Connected as Modem," then for a split-second I got the screen with the RX/TX levels and a message saying "disconnect to make a voice call," then I got an "Error #67" message saying my Sprint user name and password were incorrect. I tried a couple of times with the same result; I'm not having ANY luck with this :-(

It could be a problem since the last update.  I've been able to connect using the USB cable but not Bluetooth.

To connect via USB do you need the MSL code???

Only if you need to toggle NAI.  You could try this.  Pop out your SD card and then plug in your USB cable.  See if you can connect that way.  Before connecting, wait until the Instinct screen turns back from "Connected to Computer" to your regular main screen.  Then try your PAM connection.

Nope, same thing happens. However, I got my MSL code this morning and I was able to set it up with that. Problem solved!  Grin

That would have been my next suggestion.  Glad it's working.
