I have a macbook  pro, and  it seems that the instinct is not compatible with the mac, so I am bluetooth-ing files over to the instinct, but it takes a lil too long. Does anybody have any ideas (software, a hack) how i can make the instinct and my mac book get along, so i could bring my files over to the instinct (especially movie's)

I almost quit buying our 2 Instincts when I saw it had no support at all for Macs.  I've been using the Instinct since Thursday (4 days) and must say, I almost forgot I needed a computer.  If you want to use the Mac's Address Book and Calendar, then you have no way of doing that.  For the calendar, the work around I found was to upload my calendar to Google Calendar.  I cannot synchronize that, but at least I don't have to re-enter my calendar entries.  I have not touched the Instinct's calendar yet.  It seems very basic.  I need the option to have calendar events coded for work, personal, etc.

As for uploading music and photos (haven't done any movies), what I do is use a card reader.  You just need to make sure the card has the proper folders listed for the Instinct to find what you upload.  It's pretty fast that way.  Currently I'm looking at ways to create a music playlist before I upload my mp3s.

The SD card should contain the following folder structure:

DCIM - inside there are two folders: CAMERA and SAVED
MEDIA
MUSIC
OTHERS

There might be others depending on whether you've received files or not, but at least those folders should appear on the card.  I typed them in caps because that's how they're showing on my card now.  I don't know if capitalization is required or not.

Hey everyone, I just bought the instinct and I too have a macbookpro.  What a bummer that I cannot transfer my photos from my computer onto my phone.  Also a bummer that the calendar doesn't sync either.
What is up with that?

Does the google calendar sync with the mac calendar?  How are we to get around this issue?

Why do we need iCal?  I've been asking myself that question.  I used iCal until June 19, when I bought my Instinct.  I am now using Google Calendar exclusively.  I don't know why I used iCal before.  I had to sync the app every day in order to have the calendar on my Treo 700p, on my other Macs.  Yes, everything was done automatically with the push of a button, but why?  I'm noticing that with Google Calendar, no matter where I am, I can enter new events and not worry about synching.  My only complaint with Google Calendar is its inability to show me a full month and navigate from month to month.

First thing you'll need is a Google account.  What browser are you using?  I use Firefox.  Once I log on to my Google account, then the calendar shows up.

Sorry, my question wasn't clear.  I can access Google Calendar with my mac, but I can't with my instinct.  When I try to sign on to my google account using the web on my instinct, I get the message that Google Calendar doesn't support my browser.

That is odd.  I have saved my Google Calendar as my home page on the Instinct.  Does anyone have any idea why a user wouldn't be able to log on to the calendar?  Have you tried to log on to Google and then get to your calendar that way?

Thanks for your suggestion!  I was able to log in through google and get access to my calendar.

Regarding google calendar on my Instinct:   I only have an event view.  Is that the only option?  Also, I see that I can add events.  Can I delete events as well?  Is there any way to get alerts/alarms on my phone for events in my calendar?

I did see your other post about synching ical and google calendar.  It was very helpful!  Thank you again!!

You're welcome.  Glad it worked.  As for the views, you can set it to different views, but it'll be faster to do that on the Mac.  Whatever your default view is on the Mac, it'll also be the same on the Instinct.

As for the iCal/Google Calendar sync, I'm waiting to get back home to the U.S. to try that.  I've been out of the country for 3 weeks and sometimes don't have good internet access where I'm staying.

The nice thing about the google calendar and iCal is there is a nice little sync button in the preferences for iCal... and it very nicely syncs with google without doing a thing. My dh got me using the Google calendar before I got my Mac, and then I couldn't figure out why I needed to switch over... and technically I don't Smiley It was nice the 2 weeks I had my iPhone... but AT&T was so bad, I went back to sprint!!! So I have only had my instinct less than a week and the only frustrating thing is trying to get these programs sync'd. I have read on other forums that people just sync their instinct with google, both calendar and contacts, but haven't figured out how yet. The sync program I found on one of the websites is Windows... doesn't help with the Mac!! UGH!!

I just bought an instinct and wanted to know why sprint or Samsung does not offer a sync manager for MAC as they do for a PC. Are there any plans afoot to develop this sync software for MAC? It seems to me that it would be a great marketing ploy to do this/increase their market share.

Here are the instructions on how to sync iCal with Google Calendar.  It works like a charm.  That's what I've been using:

Have fun!
