to get a working connection between your phone and mac use this trick:

1 connect usb cable to phone
2 press voice command button
3 connect usb cable to computer

you can then hit home so you dont have to worry about voice command doing anything you dont want it to do. this has been covered elsewhere on the board but i wanted to post it here in the mac section. now you can transfer mp3s pictures etc etc. have fun.

if for some reason it doesnt work try this: turn your phone off. remove the battery and leave it out for 1 minute. then put it back in and turn the phone on. now the voice command trick should work.

I guess you missed my posting on August 8:
http://www.instinct-samsung.com/index.php/topic,3119.0.html

That works for Macs and PCs.  That's why I posted it in the Tips and Tricks section.

Hey guys, I'm a Mac user on 10.4 (Macbook Pro) and I still cannot connect through USB.
I connected the USB cable to my phone, pressed the Voice Command button and connected the USB cable to my Macbook, but then, nothing happens. Just... nothing. My computer doesn't recognize that something has been connected. When I activate the "Connect to PC" function, my Mac recognizes it for 20secs and then crashes (it seems to be a common problem from what I read)

Otherwise, no way to force my Macbook to recognize that I connected my Instinct through USB so I don't get your trick here...

Am I missing something? o.O

Yes, I also tried that... Nothing. It seems like my computer simply doesn't detect there's a new USB connection, I really need to force it by activating the "Connect to PC" feature on the phone and so, I cannot use that trick. Sad

Damn, I'm sorry here, but I'm still not aware of how to use those famous ##xxx# codes I see around here. I tried to figure it out by myself, but couldn't do anything with them. I'm with Bell Canada though, it might be different, I don't know. Please advise.

Also, I found a workaround since then.

If anybody has the same problem, I'm able to keep the USB connection between my Mac and my phone (without my Mac dropping it after 20secs) if I start a transfer from my phone to my computer as soon as the connection is established. It will then take 20 to 60 seconds to proceed (depending on the size of the file(s) I'm transfering) and, by the time, I may select files on my computer and transfer them to my phone before my first transfer is done. In short, my phone stays connected as long as at least one transfer is on its way. As soon as all transfers are completed, the connection drops.
Starting a few transfers at the same time doesn't seem to negatively affect anything (I went up to 4 at the same time). Hope it helps!

However, I'd still like to use that above "trick".

You go into the dialer to do ## codes. ##usb# would be ##872# replace the letters with the corresponding numbers. lol.

The Canadian Bell version of the Instinct is different. It utilizes a "Connect to PC" feature that our phones do not have. VoDkA has the Canadian version.

Well, I still tried that and it displayed:

Information
Default USB to: MSC

When I tried again, it kept displaying that message over and over again.
