Ok, here's the question...

I have a dual-usb adapter in my car.  One port is for my bluetooth headset to charge it, the other I use to charge the Instinct now.  My problem is the USB cord I use is the one MEANT to connect it to the computer, so obviously it goes into sync mode and disables the phone and I have to hit disconnect each time.  Is there a USB cable specifically made to just charge and doesn't have the data pins so they phone won't do this?  I know there has to be a way since the outlet plugs into the same port and obviously doesn't make it think it's connected to a computer...

When you plug it into the usb in your car you are hooking up to a computer. so you willl probably have to disconnect every time you plug it it. one way to help alleviate this problem is to hold down the voice activation button while you are plugging it in and it wont "connect". Hope ive helped

To ChillinMichael. Not that I have heard of. USBs are all pretty much the same, nothing too complex about them to really be able to make such a way of not enabling it to connect. I'm sure if you go into the phone's os settings, you can disable it there, but I don't think you'd want to do that if you're going to connect to anymore computers. Maybe try going to Amazon or eBay and looking. Someone on those may have one. Or better yet Google Shopping may find a webstore with one if they do exist. To my knowledge, I have never heard of one nor does it make any sense.

there is a different cable for charging (less expensive than data cable), but I haven't tried it.

The AC charger plugs in without "connecting" so it must be related to wiring of the connector at the phone end of the cable (not the regular USB connector).

As compared to the computer cable, the charger cable probably has a special pin jumpered (or not jumpered) for the purpose of telling the phone which cable it is.

You can use any kind of USB cable as long as it has the regular USB plug on one end and the small little one that plugs in to the controller on the other end. As long as they plug in, you can charge.
