These car mounts are awesome!  I have one for my iPod and it's a very slick minimalistic design, so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.  I think I may wait for the one with the cigarette lighter adapter though, we'll see how long I can hold out.

Must be some huge profit in that thing.  Eighty bucks for a couple of pieces of injection molded plastic.  Can't imagine what the 12v adaptor model will cost.  I think I'll let mine lay on the console.

Just do what I did and make your own MOUNT.  I used some aluminum and bent it in a vice. Then I just bought the Proclip HOLDER for my iPod.  I'll be doing the same thing for my instinct.  All I need is the HOLDER.

For those of you who aren't so handy, $80 isn't bad considering the quality, ease of installation, and the very minimalistic look; it blends in well with the car.  Most POS universal mounts will cost you $10-$50 and they're all bulky, crappy looking pieces of plastic that stick out like a sore thumb and wind up breaking in a short period of time.

To each his own I guess.  I will be the first to vouch for the Proclip products. They are great at what they do, even though they are a little on the expensive side.

Where are you seeing $80?  I chose Canada as my country and I see $39.99 for the tilt model and $29.99 for the standard model.  (Not that I would be buying one even at those prices).

You also have to get your Car Specific Car Mount. That's just the holder for the device.

Again, a little on the expensive side, but it's the only Instinct specific mount I've seen. Everything else is generic that I've seen and they all look tacky to me.

REVNU, you're not the only who appreciates ProClip ... Their products are worth every penny! No huge installation of ripping apart your dash and damaging the trim. AND easy removal if you're in a leased vehicle or getting rid of your car. The base brackets are wonderful and the holders are top-notch.

I just got another email from ProClip. The rest of the instinct mounts are now available.  Just a warning the Holder with Tilt Swivel and Straight Cable for Fixed install is ridiculously expensive. I'll be making my own cable for a couple of bux (hack and OEM car charger and put the fuse inline).  I'll be ordering a holder soon; I already have a mount and then installing. I will take pics once I get a new camera. My old one broke!

I've been eying car holders on eBay.  This one has a goose neck which I might find annoying if it flops around too much, but a necessary evil to easily use the GPS feature.  Anyone have experience with this type of holder?

Cheers...

I had one of those gooseneck type holders for my iPod at one time.  After about a week I got sick of it and ordered the ProClip system.

The gooseneck bounced around too much and I didn't feel safe having my iPod in it. It was just too flimsy, especially for a "Sports Car" with stiffer suspension. It might work OK if you have a more easy riding car, but IME the goosenecks usually fail prematurely.  YMMV

That is pretty much my fear.  Thanks!

I have a Bracketron holder:
http://www.bracketron.com/index.php?catid=6&pid=20

I actually have three. One in my girlfriend's car and two in mine. It holds an iPod video (with or without hard case), an iPod Nano, or the Instinct *very* securely, even horizontally.

has any one else found an affordable dashboard mount that charges the phone? Let me know. Thanks! The price range I'm seeing is $80-$120 but some of those have all kind of cables that go with it.
