Ok...I love the turn by turn nav on the phone.  I've been looking at car mounts out there...and have been a bit skeptical about how the phone gets held in place.  Most mounts "clamp" onto the phone where the camera button is located.  Some clamp on to the side of the phone where the volume rocker and live search/speech to action button is located.  So...forum...pls help with suggestions for a car mount that would maximize the gps nav capabilities.  (plus it helps being a hands free location since new law passed today here in Cali)

Here is what I did. Nice and cheap. I have to trim the tape so you can't see it still. The part I bought from Radio Shack is #17-591 and costs $6.99.

the gap between the air bag and the top of the steering wheel in my car fits the instinct perfect, without hitting any buttons.  I just set it in there after I set the nav, or I can do it all whiles its in there, as well as watch for phones and texts that might come in.  not to mention the nav speaker is now pointed directly at me, so I don't have to turn down the radio to hear it which is nice not only for me but for the other passengers in the car.  even when I turn, the phone stays put, it was made for this Tongue.

Mobile Grip-iT Windshield Mount, PHW-203-BL - $29 at Wal-Mart

This is something I'm going to buy soon, they also have one in the car audio section which I think is cheaper and is made by Scosche. Using this you can suction cup the phone to the windshield and then angle it however you want it, best of all you don't have to ruin your dash with double sided tape.

They do make double-sided tape that is made to not leave residue when removed, I would hope that most people know this.

Just bought one of these, along with a jam jacket, and invisible shield (screen only).

For those with "difficult" car dashes, this has worked perfectly for me. I've got the full body invisi-shield and the clip hanger attached to the back, hangs off my belt loop and then hangs off my car dash.

I use a Bell Mount from AutoZone.

It holds with 1 tab at the Top dead center and 2 Tabs at the Bottom ,works great can rotate it.  I did modify the Spring to take some tension off but it still holds fine in my Jeep.

They are currently out of stock at my local stores; we did ship some to 1034 and 1036 last week so I'll check with both of those stores again in a few days. I will let you know once I get my hands on one and try it out. Just from what I have seen of the device in it's package while filling the order for those stores - it seems like it can pivot and twist in such a manner.

@ Ramer

You're not afraid the battery cover is going to slide off?  I know they can be difficult to remove but they're on mostly by friction and not by some locking mechanism.
