I'm hunting for a pair of bluetooth headphones for active use.  Something to use when riding a bike, running, and with a lot of head movement.

Anyone have any suggestions?  I've seen the JayBird JB-200i.  They are pricey at $150.  What do you guys use?

If you want real stereo bluetooth headphones, check out the Jabra BT620s... Amazing battery life, and I got my pair for $40 at newegg. The battery lasts longer than both Instinct batteries, so you'll never run out of juice before the phone does. They are behind the ear design, and haven't fallen off my head once. Great product, great sound and cheap!

The Motorola S9 kicks A**
Had a problem with the first one that I got, found out it was the older version (red stripe on it).  Sent it back and got a blue stripe (the updated one) and I can't imagine a better one EVER!

I use the Motorla S9, too.  It's an amazing headset.  I use mine at the gym with no problem or fear of tangling cords getting caught in the equipment I'm using.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.  I'm going to try the Motorola's.  I have seen some negative reviews, but I'm going to buy them at Fry's which has a pretty consumer friendly return policy.  I'll update later with my thoughts.

Just make sure your Instinct's software is up to date. The S9 will work much better.

I'm interested to see how the S9's do because I have read a lot reviews about how people have sweat into the headphones and they have shorted out.

Are there any BT headphones that don't go around/over the head? Just in the ears?

I decided to go with the JayBird 200i.  After reading reviews, I swayed to this direction over the S9's.  I'm sure the s9's are a wonderful product, but the complaints I did read are common with my situation.

1) They don't do well with sweat.

2) They are not comfortable if you have a big head (literally, not figuratively)

3) The wrap around band doesn't do well with beanies or any other head cover.

But if anyone wants to give them a shot I did find 'em for $50 http://www.cellphoneshop.net/s9.html

The Jaybird's don't have a band and apparently deal with sweat a lot better.  We'll see.  I'll post back when I have a chance to break 'em in.

Has anyone checked these out?  They have gotten decent reviews and not a bad price

Does the handset really need to be above your elbow to get good sound quality for BT headphones while outside?

No.... it's just a handy place to carry it when you don't have pockets

OK, I got my Jaybird headphones.  I'll tell y'all what I think.

Caveat here, I never owned a pair of bluetooth headphones so I really have nothing to compare.

First, you get alot.  It comes with:
-A nylon bag to store the headphones,
-A charging docking station,
-A Power cable for the docking station, This is extra cool (for me anyway) because the power cable plugs into the wall and has the little USB end.  I have the U3 mp3 player which can only be charged by computer via USB.  Not anymore!
-replacement earbuds

It does take some time, at first, to fit these.  READ the directions!  After you get it right the first time it is a breeze.  Once on, I don;t even notice them anymore.  I use them for bike riding and disc golf.  The headphones don't even budge when I whip around throwing plastic.

Sound quality is ok.  These aren't in-ear buds even though they go in the ear.  They don't seal so you do get ambient noise from the outside world (which is great riding a bike)  Because they don't seal, the bass isn't pronounced, but it is still there.  There is an underlying noise that you can hear when the music is done in between tracks.  It sounds like the bluetooth noise.  Dunno, never owned a pair.  Basically, don;t expect to get your socks knocked off with pristine sound quality.  You get that from wired in-ear hi-fi headphones.  To me, I wanted music when being active outside.  If I want to listen to pristine quality, I'll do that back home on my studio monitors.  Anyhow, great hi-fi headphones just reveal the lossy quality of your mp3s.

My final thoughts.....

They are perfect for what I needed - Comfort and Durable.  They comfortably stay on my head.  I can wear hats and sunglasses.  the sweat doesn't hurt them.  The sound is loud enough and good enough.

Yep, they are pricey, but there really isn't a whole lot of choices out there.  The motorola S9's were everything I wanted except for the bulky headband in the back and the inability to deal with sweat. (of course I didn't own a pair.  I'm just going with 'net reviews)  After the S9's, I didn't see anything else.

Just do it and get a pair.

Hope this helps.

EDIT:

Oh Yeah, I almost forgot.  You can have phone conversations with the headphones on.  There is a mic placed under the right earbud.

There are also volume and track controls on the headphones.  so you can shuffle through tracks or adjust volume without touching the phone.  With these controls you can also stop the music and accept incoming phone calls.

Can anyone compare the Jaybirds to the in-the-box headphones quality and volume level for me?

Sorry for the late reply, I haven;t checked the site in a few weeks.

The Jaybirds sound just as loud as the in-the-box headphones.

The ITB headphones have a more pronounced high-end as well as highs that seem to be a bit clearer.  But, the highs are way more sharp. And I mean bad sharp.  Like painful sharp. Also, the ITB, headphones may have a touch..just a touch... of more bass.

The Jaybirds sound is very dependent on placement in the ear.  The bass was light until I adjusted the headphones properly.  the highs on the Jaybird seem to be slightly distorted.  I don;t know if this is from the speaker or signal degrading over the bluetooth connection.  This distortion doesn;t really bother me though.  I'm using these to be active outside and not critically listen to the music.

My final thought is that the INB headphones may sound slightly clearer, but at the expense of sharp highs.

Sound quality aside, the pros of having a cordless headphones, track and volume controls and phone conversation capabilities just blows the INB headphones out of the water.

I know they are pricey, but for me its worth it.  I heard somewhere they have a 30 day take back policy.  Don't hold me too it, but I think they do.

Hope this helps.
