Is there ANY app out there that will show how many miles per hour your travelling?  Heck, I could do this with my old I850 Nextel phone.

Thanks buddy!  Why the hell diddnt I ever think of that myself?  Boy I'm stupid!  :Smiley

I put a chevy 350 v8 in my 88 4Runner and the speedo cable is too short to reach the transfer case, so no speedo right now.  Plus I have 36" tires with stock gears, so even when the speedo is hooked up, its off by 25%.

I guess MPH is too advanced for this phone huh?  Embarrassed

had I had a better answer, I would have answered better.  I already assumed your situation was as you stated, but couldn't help but make light of your question...my badd, lol.
With gps moving as you drive, one would think an app would be possible to show mph...but that would be better answered from one of the developers.  They're always looking for new challenges...

that would most def be a fun app to try. but its not a need for most people. seeing most people have working spedometers.

Wow...nobody here drives an ATV, boat, or anything without a speedo besides a car?  A bike even?  Nobodys an outdoor type of person?  Everyone's a computer geek?

You guys are boring.

There are TONS of GPS programs out there that show MPH, but none of them will allow access to the GPS on the instinct.

It would, however, be applicable to companies who provide GPS-capable phones as dispatching devices (delivery drivers, etc) to keep tabs on the driving habits of their employees - and to insur. co.'s.

So modify your _policy.txt file so it would allow the app to run but it'll be hard to find an app like that that works with the touchscreen

Our nav shows eta - it shouldn't be that big a jump to throw in mph. But Samsung and Sprint, in their infinite wisdom chose not to. Tongue

No, Telenav, the app vendor for Sprint Navigation, chose not to have that feature in the curr app. It's a calculation avail to any GPS app based on the signal from the satellites. Alot of GPS have it.

The Location API for J2ME (JSR 179) has a method for getting speed.  If you can get around signing the app, then it should not be too complicated to pull mph.

Ive modified mine, and tried 3 or 4 differenent apps that have MPH available and NONE of the apps will work with the GPS.

I found a trick to get GPS apps to work.

I have the .policy mod

You have to start up the sprint navigation app before starting any 3rd party gps app.

A program called "Velox" works, but it doesnt respond to any user inputs, but luckily it automatically goes a screen that shows you how fast your going and how far you've travelled.  Its in kilometers per hour, but I can work with that.

~105 KPH is 65mph.  Keep the truck in 5th gear at ~2k RPM's, and I'm going 65mph.
