I was trying out the gps for the first time yesterday and after following a route for a little while the map would not show anymore, it would still show the blue route but not the map. It would come back if I left the Sprint Navigation and went back in and made the route again but would still go away again after a little while.

That has been happening to me recently as well. I'll have full signal and it will show all the surrounding streets, then it will go blank and just show the blue line and arrow... or it will show the map and just the street I am on, not the surrounding streets, etc... I don't know...

I have had the same problem. I read somewhere that if one clicks on SUMMARY waited a few seconds, then, clicked on TRAFFIC, waited a minute of two. Then, clicked on NAV and the streets would come back. I tried it. That did happen to me as described but the streets would eventually disappear again! Go figure! The longest I had the streets figure in the map was about an hour and a half. Rest of the trip, two hours, no marginal streets just the blue trip lane! Any suggestions are appreciated! Anybody knows if the early January MR5 will fix this?

Cheers,

Wisconsin

Ive been having this problem too. it looks like the data connection stops downloading, and once it does, no maps or searching for poi's along the route. Im curious, does anyone NOT have this problem?

It might be a heavy time for the network traffic? Unfortunately there are limitations to a data intensive phone (as people are finding out with the TV app). If you turn on the sound you should still be able to hear the directions. Or go to the summary and at least then you will have google maps like directions (better than nothing).

Getting directions is fine, but sometimes you want to see nearby roads. Its not just maps, as I said it wont search for anything like gas etc.. 0 data. Do you ignore this or does it not affect you?

I have this problem occasionally. But I probably have more network coverage in SD and LA than you do in Riverside. If you want roads then just scroll with your finger. That may get the map to redraw.

You would think so, believe me ive tried. Ive actually been on a road trip over the last week from so cal up to nor cal then down to vegas. At no point along the way have the maps workes for more then one minute, if that. Ive gone through places with all 6bars and some with just one, and its all the same.

Your answers are appreciated. Chances are that its my (our) unit thats messed up. Guess a call to sprint is in order when I get back home...

You might try updating your data profile and PRL. I didn't know you were on a road trip. As you move out of your home area you change towers and updating your profile and PRL will keep you up to date and I think you have a high chance of fixing it with that. If not then you may be right about your unit or just having bad luck.

Happy travels!

It looks like alot of people have been having this issue and supposedly a nav update is due on the 7th of this month. Hopefully that will resolve it.

Thanks for the help.

To the three guys who posted before me on this, I managed to get my MSL and changed the Media Buffer to 20, as well as removing the MMG(I think that's it...) proxy, and it seemed to have resolved this problem. So if your still having this issue you might try that.

So much for that update though.

Ill keep testing to make sure its not a fluke, but don't have plans for a road trip for a while just yet Cheesy

For me, the maps load flawlessly in the early AM and do not load in the late afternoon (peak time), leading me to think it may be bandwidth related issue.  I did learn a little trick to get the maps to refresh without leaving the navigation screen.
Tap the status area at the top of the screen (where the signal strength, time, etc is) and then tap it again, the maps should refresh.  Although the maps will disappear again, at least in a pinch, you can temporarily view your surroundings. Any ideas why this works? It could be a clue towards a solution.

That's cool. I will have to get the update and see how it works for me.
