All comments are appreciated. I did not mean to direct my comment at anyone specific. I am trying to get them to make this phone into a high end GPS. It's so close, all the bits and pieces are there. This is the only unit that has cell, GPS, MP3 and Bluetooth. Only thing missing, BT does not play with GPS. Sprint and telenav just need to get them to work together.

Any $100 GPS has maps and some even have turn-by-turn. But only the high end GPS have BT. Sprint and Samsung can be the leader. It would be the cell phone of choice for motorcyclist, bicyclist, 4 wheelers, etc. Any activity that includes travel and a helmet. There is a whole secondary market for Helmet communications. Imagine one unit that can do it all, i hope they get it. So close, yet so far.

"So close yet so far" seems to describe many of the features on this phone. The potential is there for this to be a great phone, not just a fun toy. Let's hope they make the necessary fixes and additions before everyone returns their phone and loses interest.

GPS is useless without bluetooth turn-by-turn unless you are walking. Even then it's difficult to hear on the tin sounding speakers.
HA, my speakers not that bad, and I jack mine into my stereo anyway, so I'm not that mad at them for it.  I would rather have google maps, and deal without the "voice/turn by turn."

Maybe you need to understand the whole situation to make an intelligent comment. My friends and I ride motorcycles. We all use Bluetooth enabled helmets. Some use Nolan, others use Chatterbox etc. The helmets have 2 BT channels, one for cell phone, another for GPS. If Instinct can send all it's sound functionality (cell, GPS, MP3, with priority) to 1 BT signal, this would free up the other for radar or FRS GMS communication or what have you. It is much safer to listen to turn-by-turn directions than looking down at the little screen, especially on 2 wheels. If you like you should give it a try. If you don't know how to ride a motorcycle, try it while riding a bicycle. Then try it in traffic Shocked

This is not a complicated change. All BT GPS can send turn-by-turn voice directions to BT. Think about it for a moment, why do GPS have BT? Undecided

I guess we need to carry maps and the instinct GPS as a nice to have item during a trip. And make stops to read the maps etc. or have a passenger navigator, just like it didn't exist. I have not figured out the benefit of the GPS other than a novelty feature.  The screen to to small for us that wear persciption glasses and the turn-by-turn directions do not work bluetooth. The instinct speakers are not loud enough when the car stereos on. I guess we'll need to wear the headset that came with the unit. I find it too mickey mouse to use, especially when i'm used to fully functional GPS. No way it can replace a current garman or tom tom stand alone gps unit.

Help me keep this thread alive, maybe a light will go on for someone at sprint or samsung or telenav. They will realize all the pieces are there. Just a small program modification or UI will get the GPS to play with bluetooth. And a whole new marketing direction towards adventure sports will appear. Imagine the instinct going up against highend GPS replacement with the benefits of cell phone all in one unit.

Phone Before Samsung Instinct: Motorola Razr V3M Red

I just dont understand this.
As ive mentioned before on this forum, I had Telenav on my Razr before my Instinct for about a year, and learned a lot about its quirks. It used to work with Bluetooth and you could answer incoming calls when GPS was running. The only bug relating to calls was that after about one or two minutes of the call, it would cut the other person off for about 3 seconds and then they would come back. Very annoying when you cannot do anything about it and its an urgent call from abroad or something... I think it was due to the phone trying to update the maps as well as handling the call.
Anyway, all this to say: if the Razr could do Bluetooth and balance calls and GPS, I would have thought the Instinct is a software upgrade away from being able to do so as well...

My GPS seems to be off anyway.  It's always telling me i'm off path or whatever.  My g/f was laughing, she said her's works pretty well, but the other day when we tried mine to go somewhere it would keep showing me off road in the woods beside the highway, and mine takes a bit to update.

Now that being said, it's still impressive when it does work, or even just the idea how close it gets me.  It's just that I'll like the google style better.  I'll be in a neighborhood, I'll be rolling 5 mph waiting on it to update, and it still shows me where i was 5+ minutes ago, and I need to know what the next few turns are.

I'm use to reading maps, so in those cases, I'm fine with just looking at my dot on a map, and making my own decisions.  So, while telnav seems cool, I think my phone's gps is buggy, and I hope we get a google map AP that works with our keyboard.

The GPS is a joke and marketing scam. The GPS is marginally useful, that's putting politely. When I contacted sprint they told me to get a another device! Not only is the GPS a joke so are we to put up with there sh1t. The bottem line is, like this phone for something else, not the GPS! This phone has so much potental, to bad sprint will drop the ball!

I am in the Detroit metro area and my GPS works excellent! I have not had a problem

Did you read the title of the thread? Have you taken your GPS for a ride on a motorcycle looking for a specific address in a city you are not familar with? Or on a multilane freeway in traffic looking for an entrance to a busy airport Huh? Try it, then read the title of thread, then report back on how you can make the instinct GPS work for those situations. If it still works fine for you, that's great. I wouldn't want to be driver next to you while you're looking down on the 2.75"X1.5" screen going 60 mph Shocked This thread is to make the instinct work better, not make do, we already have that, paper maps work too. This thread is about a cell phone with GPS and bluetooth but they don't work together. Simple, I hope you get it... :Smiley

Like I said before, I certainly do not want to be on the same road as you when you are looking down on the screen at the speed the poser bike can go Shocked When I ride my motorcycles I like to keep my eyes focused on the road and traffic  Cool Please reread the title of the thread and give it some more thought.

Let me try to explain. The instinct phone has a GPS feature, and it also has Bluetooth. This allows instinct to send sound to a wireless headset. However, instinct GPS does not send sound (turn-by-turn) to Bluetooth. The objective of this thread is for instinct owners that require the combined functionality and looking to replace or like to have, a GPS with Bluetooth (one less device to carry around and keep charged). This is usually desired for riders that have helmets with Bluetooth installed, such as motocom, Nolan, Schubert, chatterbox x1 etc. If it works fine for you without BT that is great, start your own thread and rave about it there, explain how you like to look down at the little map while you ride your busa Shocked Your riding capabilities must be extraordinary  :Smiley

The GPS is entry level at best, most likely a step up from old GPS made 3 years ago. Definitely a step down from GPS available now. They made an effort to create a cell phone with bluetooth and GPS, they should have made it work together. I still have not figured out why the GPS and bluetooth don't work together on the instinct. Can someone at Samsung or sprint please chime in. I guess they would never admit that it was an oversight Lips Sealed Maybe it was outsourced like everything else these days, and they have no idea how it's used  Undecided

Has anyone figured out a way to get the GPS volume louder? Also, is there finally a solution for the GPS to work with bluetooth headsets/speakers? I would appreciate any help with this, I have been waiting a year for someone to come up with a solution to these issues. Riding season is here and I don't want to purchase a seperate GPS unit for my motorcycle if my phone already has one. I'm sure this could be easily be fixed!

Not sure I understand the heat on this one. When I want gps I put my phone on the middle of the steering wheel (velcro) - easy to hear and easy to see. In Calif and many? other states it is illegal to drive with two-ear headsets.

This should really be a easy fix, I don't know why they have not done anything to fix this issue. I ride a motorcyle and can't even use the gps or pandora on my phone using a stereo bluetooth headset or speakers because of this. I went to the sprint store today and tried out the new palm pre paired with my bluetooth speakers and they WORKED and it was really LOUD, I was able to use the gps and have music playing in the backround, it muted the music everytime it had to prompt me for a turn. If this doesn't get fixed soon then I'm gonna have to go with the palm pre, it sucks because I really like this phone.
