Anyone get GPS directions on bluetooth headset? I can pair instinct phone to my bluetooth headset. Phone calls work, MP3 player works. But the GPS voice directions do not, however I can hear the voice direction on the phone speakers. I will use this with with motorcycle helmet and chatterbox motorcycle bluetooth X1 communication unit. My tom tom 920t GPS works with my helemt bluetooth.

So you can't hear GPS directions thru a bluetooth headset?

Sounds like what he's saying.  The first time I tried it, it didn't work, but I haven't actually tried the mp3 player yet. Work has been so busy, i haven't had time to dump anything on the phone.
I know the radio/tv doesn't work with the bluetooth, so it wouldn't surprise me if the directions don't either.

Glad to hear the phone hooks to a bluetooth helmet, i was thinking about such a purchase.

I have found some disappointing news. It seems when you do about anything, the phone ceases being a phone.
If you're streaming tv/radio, it won't ring, they go to voicemail.  That's not as bad, but my g/f found out that while she was using the Nav to find something, it didn't ring either, people went straight to vmail.

Does anyone know if this is the case on all sprint phones? I'm new to sprint.  If it's not, I might change phones.  If it is, then Im' a little disppointed in sprint, my last phone would interrupt everything for calls.  I can't imagine using telnav to get to someone, but they can't call you if something comes up, while you're traveling there.  Specially if it's LONG distances.

From what I've heard it is any phone on Sprints network. It is also a major source of critisism opn these boards so hopefully they are already adressing the problem and coming up with a fix.

Thanks for the info.  From what I can tell, it's only when Telnav is grabbing the GPS, so when you first open it, mainly.  Then it's just kind of a flip of the coin, it seems to be a coverage thing from there, but I did get it to kick up a message.
My g/f says her problem is that if you don't dismiss it fast enough it kills her telnav, and when she did try to answer, it took long enough that she missed the call or something anyway.  But that's another story.

Either way, I'm glad to hear it will interrupt telnav, now just to see if sprint can fix the tv/radio thing.  I sure enjoy wasting time waiting on people with the comedy clips and such, but i'd hate to miss their call while doing so.

the gps voice directions go to instinct handset speakers. No way to set speakers to bluetooth headset. Sprint replied, saying there is an update coming in august but not sure what is included. So the GPS is useless for motorcyclist that have bluetooth helmet. Or anyone that doesn't want to disturb others while watching sprint TV.

My GPS seems to be off anyway.  It's always telling me i'm off path or whatever.  My g/f was laughing, she said her's works pretty well, but the other day when we tried mine to go somewhere it would keep showing me off road in the woods beside the highway, and mine takes a bit to update.

Now that being said, it's still impressive when it does work, or even just the idea how close it gets me.  It's just that I'll like the google style better.  I'll be in a neighborhood, I'll be rolling 5 mph waiting on it to update, and it still shows me where i was 5+ minutes ago, and I need to know what the next few turns are.

I'm use to reading maps, so in those cases, I'm fine with just looking at my dot on a map, and making my own decisions.  So, while telnav seems cool, I think my phone's gps is buggy, and I hope we get a google map AP that works with our keyboard.

The GPS is a joke and marketing scam. The GPS is marginally useful, that's putting politely. When I contacted sprint they told me to get a another device! Not only is the GPS a joke so are we to put up with there sh1t. The bottem line is, like this phone for something else, not the GPS! This phone has so much potental, to bad sprint will drop the ball!

I want to make sure this get heard and fixed!

I have a tom tom gps and it has a sound function which allows you to set sound from GPS or MP3 Player separately. For example, I can set GPS sound to speaker, earplug jack, bluetootrh or FM channel. And I can set the GPS MP3 Player to same. I can have the GPS voice directions set to bluetooth and MP3 player set to FM Channel so everyone can hear.

I think it's an API (application program interface) called soundApi or something like that. Telenav writes to soundApi, and instinct can read soundApi and route it somewhere else like bluetoothApi or speakerApi etc depending on users choice. Somehow instinct defaults Telenav to speakerApi only. It's not rocket science, tom tom can do it!

Sprint and instinct is so close to being something really special. All they have to do is listen and make the appropriate changes. But we all know sprint. Come on stop the BS and make changes!

Bluetooth turn-by-turn will also save battery life! And be loud enough to hear. The Instinct speaker can not be heard in a vehicle.

GPS is useless without bluetooth turn-by-turn unless you are walking. Even then it's difficult to hear on the tin sounding speakers.

lylec305 is ranting a bit, but all his points are valid. I'd really like to see a BT feature for the nav.

HA, my speakers not that bad, and I jack mine into my stereo anyway, so I'm not that mad at them for it.  I would rather have google maps, and deal without the "voice/turn by turn."

Maybe you need to understand the whole situation to make an intelligent comment. My friends and I ride motorcycles. We all use Bluetooth enabled helmets. Some use Nolan, others use Chatterbox etc. The helmets have 2 BT channels, one for cell phone, another for GPS. If Instinct can send all it's sound functionality (cell, GPS, MP3, with priority) to 1 BT signal, this would free up the other for radar or FRS GMS communication or what have you. It is much safer to listen to turn-by-turn directions than looking down at the little screen, especially on 2 wheels. If you like you should give it a try. If you don't know how to ride a motorcycle, try it while riding a bicycle. Then try it in traffic Shocked

This is not a complicated change. All BT GPS can send turn-by-turn voice directions to BT. Think about it for a moment, why do GPS have BT? Undecided

Actually I understand what you’re saying, I was stating an opinion.
I personally, am not mad about the speaker quality.
I also know a buddy that can jack into his helmet.  It's not as nice, but it works.  Since he was use to old style comms on bikes, it doesn't bother him.

I believe I was even one of the first people to comment on the thread and say

"Glad to hear the phone hooks to a bluetooth helmet, i was thinking about such a purchase."

I recently went to a bike rally in OK, and I took a gps enabled phone with me; however, I'm use to reading maps, and really don't need turn by turn, anyway.  I had google maps on the phone, and enjoyed it, I took a few ventures off by myself into the mountains, while everyone else were taking naps, or setting up camping spots.  Since I don't have anywhere to hold my phone on my bike, and can't seem to find a case that doesn't jack with the touch screen, I haven't found it to be practical for use on my bike anyway.
