In the last few weeks (may be more) everytime load a webpage in the instinct browser it 'zooms-out" to fit the entire page in the screen.. which of course means you can't see crap! and you have to zoom in. I first noticed it on mobile-facebook but realized it's doing that on every page I browse to with very few exceptions. I think there was an upgrade pushed out when this started happening.

Before the upgrade (and I'm assuming that's the culprit based on timing) the page would stay at a default size that was readable. If I wanted to see more if the screen I could scroll or zoom out myself.

Anyone else noticing this or have a fix? I have the M800, running the browser in mobile mode, have no idea what version of the browser or software is - don't know how to find that.

Thanks for the assist!

Can someone involved with the Samsung Instinct updates please reply and (a) explain the rationale as to why this was changed and (b) what recourse -- if any -- we have as users going forward (i.e. will it just stay as-is?  is there a reasonable workaround?  will some preference setting be made available so that we can customize this capability to suit our needs?).

Thanks,

Rob

You won't get an official answer here - to the best of my knowledge we have never had a Sprint or Samsung representative participate here in a meaningful way.  You can go to buzzaboutwireless.com, which is Sprint's official forum, and echo the complaint that's been made many times, but I doubt you will get a useful answer.

I'm not accidentally double tapping the screen. And double tapping to zoom in isn't reliable nor does it zoom in enough to make the screen readable. Based on the Sprint forum threads I've read many people are complaining about the same issue - because the browser didn't not do that before the "upgrade".. so no, a "workaround" is not solving the problem - it's merely a bandaid. Fixing the browser where it doesn't automatically zoomout is the only acceptable solution to this problem. Sadly based on Sprint's customer service and the POS Instinct this will be a long wait for a train that won't come.

Best idea is to DL one of the 3 or 4 optional browsers and use them. Sprint and samsung screwed the pooch on picking OBIGO to make there browser for them.

I second that vote... and the after market browsers are much faster at rendering web pages.

Where does one find these after-market browsers?

Your options are:

Opera

Bolt

UCWeb

I personally like Opera.  I think that they offer the best all around package.

Go to m.opera.com/next on your Instinct's OEM browser.  Select the Mini5 Beta2 download.  The rest, as they say, is History!

Naw - just my opinion. You apparently love the Instinct based on your sig. I've personally have had nothing but problems with this phone so I think it's a piece of crap. And this is just in comparison to itself. I'm not iphone fan or anything like that.

Thanks for the after market suggestions. Will give those a try.

This has been a major improvement to my user experience. Thanks again for the recommendation. The Opera browser is pretty awesome.

Question for you - is there any kind of hack you can do to make the phone actually use Opera as the default browser when you click on imbedded links in SMS and email?

Niel, Unfortunately there's not.  I know that a handfull of the developers here had tried to find a way to get that with no success.  Still, the Opera browser is a big step up from the OEM one.
