Since it's on your SD card, say again?
Sprint can't delete songs on your card, no matter how they were obtained, they couldn't tell either way...gotta be something else man...

Purchased Koz files from the Sprint store can only be played on the phone number of the account that purchased the music, other than that, mp3's they couldn't tell one way or another...try removing the music off of your card, and delete the playlist file ( recently added m3u ), then put the music back on the card and see if that fixes it...

I would try the above tips to see if this fixes it...if the files are koz and not your purchased koz songs, then leave them off because they won't play on another phone number...
My wife and I tried swapping songs we purchased from the Sprint store along time ago, and they wouldn't play on the other phone..

Just trying to help you figure out what's the deal man, I fully understand what the above statement says....But in almost 10 months, you are the first post stating a specific alert saying you couldn't play the music because it was obtained illegally...the only alert I've ever seen is on koz files, and it said something to the fact that it wasn't purchased for this device or something along those lines...
Good Luck, I hope you get it running smoothly again...In my years of downloading music I haven't came across 1 mp3 that was copywrite protected, so I'm still lost on why you would get the alert...all the same, i'm out of ideas, maybe another member could assist...

Sprint didn't delete your music.  The problem of the phone erasing stuff on the sd card has been around for awhile.

If you got a message saying that a song was obtained illegally then I would venture to guess that came from the place/person that made the song available for download. When you tried to play the song, you most likely activated a file that was intended to wipe your card clean to punish you for downloading the particular song illegally. Sprint absolutely DID NOT delete your music. Perhaps you should pay closer attention to where you are getting your illegal music from.

This is because of Sprint.  I too got this message this morning about ALL my music, even the stuff I ripped to MP3 from my CD's.  Welcome to Draconian/Nazi police state a-la Sprint.  The new updated player states in the help file that it will ONLY play songs obtained from Sprint Music Store, you can transfer all the files you want from your computer and it even says that, but they carefully worded it so as to fool you and make you think it's useful when all it will do is play THEIR songs now, an attempt to make more money.  Call Sprint and complain, EVERYONE!

Now to figure out how to downgrade the Music player so I can play my old songs, I never used the Sprint Music Store.  Only when I went to the store did it ask for an upgrade, so my thought...downgrade the application and never go to their store, problem solved.

That's not true.  I added songs day before yesterday that were purchased from walmart and napster.  It's the problem with the sd card wiping.  I've also got music that was "acquired" through other channels on my card, and they play fine too.

Have you gone into Sprint Music store in the past few days, like clicked on it from your Music player and let it update?  Their is clearly a message that comes up saying you CANNOT play music not obtained from Sprint, and says it will delete and asks 'continue'.  If you'd like, I'll take a picture of the message to show you how it is true.  The Help file, which I will also take a picture of, if you would like, also reflects this to be true.  This has only started happening since I clicked "Sprint Music store" a day ago and updated to the latest Music Player.  It will not ask for or perform an update unless you click Music Store.

I think you better read that a little closer.... you're gonna feel silly.

And yes, I have the latest updates.  The sd card wiping is a known problem.  There are several threads about it.

If that is the case, then yet another problem Sprint should deal with or Samsung, if it's hardware.
