Overall It looks like a pretty good phone, but I notice nowhere is anyone mentioning the operating system.  I would really like to know if this Instinct is Windows Mobile? and if so what version.  I have some apps that I use on my PPC that I really need and they are a make or break kinda thing, such as a program that keeps track of my checking savings and credit cards, keeps track of my bank accounts along with some stocks that I have invested.

and if it is not windows mobile is there going to be software that we can download on the phone to keep track of such things.

I am a real novice and have a similar question. I have owned a Palm Treo for years and love that I have a couple of airline schedules that I download to it. I also have several others that I like and make my life easy. I assume these apps are only for the Palm OS. Will the software guys write programs allowing me to download lots of apps to the Instinct like I can on the Palm?

I have seen articles saying windows mobile, Java, brew and even UI One.  Doubt its windows mobile when looking at the videos.  The HTC Touch had a little UI on top of windows mobile, but you could see the windows look and feel in the applications.  Looking at this device, nothing like that at all.  Most likely Java and Brew like other sprint phones (developer.sprint.com).  There are thousands of applications writting in Java (known to be downloadable to devices) so I bet the applications people want will be available.  One artcile said corporate e-mail, so don't need outlook on the device rather an application that can interact with a windows exchange server.

It's definitely not a Windows Mobile Phone, it would use I.E instead of the samsung browser, it's an O.S written exclusively for the instinct built from the ground up

Does anyone know if whatever OS the Instinct has will work with GroupWise email/calendar/etc?  Also, will I be able to pull up Microsoft Word Documents?

Nope ... if you want those features you'll need to look at a smartphone instead.

amandag  it does have an option under email to add other accounts if you scroll past the pre configured ones in the menu. you can setup email thru the imap address and configure it and it should work with GW but you won't have access to the calendar. although you could runt he GW plugin for Outlook and then use the connection manager to update things that way and it might work for you as a workaround although a bit more complicated. Maybe someone over at novell will get notifylink to work on the instinct then it will do all that stuff for us. =) I just got this info from one of our guys and i've gotta get my usb cable so i can try it all but but its worth a shot for you to try anyway.

Actually I have had success opening word documents from e-mail attachments. I'm not sure about the .docx, but .doc works just fine.
