We at SEVEN keep innovating and improving the email experience on your Instinct and other Sprint devices. I just wanted to make sure you know we welcome your feedback - positive or negative, suggestions, issues at  SprintMobileEmail@seven.com

Thanks for all of you that have already provided your thoughts, and many thanks supporting Sprint and SEVEN!

Boy, y'all probably will regret posting an email address on here.  Does your company develop just the infrastructure of the email system or the software on the phone also?  I don't want to blow y'all away with a software-related email or post if your just involved in the backend infrastructure.

On the note of backend infrastructure, I'm having a horrible time with my Google Apps email in the last 24-48 hours.  I can't set it up as a normal Gmail account because the system won't register it for push email.  However, setting it up as an "Other IMAP" doesn't give me access to search my contacts.  i had it working for quite a while and, earlier today, I went ahead and hard reset the phone thinking it might be residual crap on the phone.  Still a no-go.  Interestingly enough, I also use another Gmail account for personal email (not Apps - regular Gmail) and it works just fine.

I'll CC the email address on this as well...

We are behind the service both on the back-end and the device-side software. I guarantee we'll regret only if there's no feedback. Smiley

Well, then, I'll break this into two sections.  First, the application itself:

1.  While supporting IMAP and OWA is outstanding, there are severe limitations in the software.  Lack of folder definitions, lack of access to other folders/labels in Gmail, lack of downloading attachments from OWA Work email, and other IMAP/POP specific issues.

2.  Inability to change server settings once entered without having to delete and re-enter the details again.

3.  Lack of HTML support.

4.  Lack of signatures or even the ubiquitous "Sent from my mobile device/Crackberry/Fabulous and Exciting Spring Instinct by Samsung with a HORRIBLE BROWSER, HORRIBLE MIDP2.0 SUPPORT and Push Email from Seven"

5.  Attachment viewing support is horrible.  I know that licensing software to view MS Office stuff isn't cheap, nor is PDF support, but the application can't play a WAV file.  It loads a player but then gives an error at the same time.

I'm sure I'll think of some more and I'll post them.  As far as backend, we need documentation on how the application and subsequent passthrough to Sprint creates/deletes IMAP folders for general email servers as well as the popular Gmail/Hotmail/etc IMAP options.  It doesn't take the standard Gmail route with deletions and the such.  Gmail IMAP default is when the client "deletes" the message, it actually archives the message in All Mail, which is a much better option.

In closing, let me say that, with some tweaking/updating, the email app on the Instinct could be really really great.  I've been using the Gmail app on my Fusic prior to this and, if it were available right now in a working condition, I would probably still use it because of the additional functionality.  I'd use the Sprint Email app to get push notification and then load the Gmail app to do the dirty work.  However, the Sprint Email app could really do justice if it were updated.

I'm sure I'll have more.  Please don't take it as a complete flaming...you're just one of the few brave souls in the development arena for the Instinct that has been brave enough to come forward...

Oh, and "Other IMAP" doesn't update quickly.  I think it's been timed at every 15 minutes, where as the Gmail option updates almost instantly.  However, you can't edit folder options with Gmail account.  And, as of right now, I can't add that Gmail Apps account and get it to register for push...

+1 on all of criley98's comments except for the Gmail delete.  I actually like that how when you delete an e-mail it moves it to the Trash folder instead of going to All Mail (like Outlook does).  I know Gmail gives an insane amount of storage space, but when I say I want an e-mail deleted that's really what I want.  This is obviously a matter of personal preference though and could be made a user-selectable setting.

The attachments issue I'm guessing isn't so much an e-mail software issue as it is with the included apps (or lack thereof) for opening attachments, such as WAV files, so I'm assuming Sprint will have to address those.  But of all of the other e-mail related issues, the biggest one for me is the lack of support for Gmail labels / folders.  One of the great things about Gmail is its ability to automatically assign labels and filter e-mails for you, and unfortunately the lack of support for this on the Instinct completely cripples our ability to use one of Gmail's best features.

I have about 40 or so different folders on my work email and most of them have rules set up. More often than not I will not see the email because it has gone directly to that folder and does not show up in the inbox, so being able to go through the folders would be very nice. Not sure if there is really anything that can be done just yet as to see Excel (c) and Word (c) attachments just yet, but that would be nice also.

Agreed on the lack of folder support on IMAP and OWA.  I also had a devil of a time getting the OWA set up, and no one at sprint could fix it until we totally deprovisioned the phone and reprovisioned it.

Also, it would be nice when the mail app searches the OWA contacts if it could pull the entire record (including PHONE NUMBERS).

General text edit features:

Cut and paste
Select text for delete (now you can only use backspace key - if you hold it down for a while it will delete everything prior to the spot the cursor is)

First off im pretty sure they are only responsible for the email not the actual java compliance and web browser.

Second the only major problem for me and i mean MAJOR is the lack of html support in email which means no pictures or links being displayed unless a url is spelled out. This seems to be a big problem for a lot of people so fixing this would greatly increase the use of this application.

I look forward to any updates you may provide to our phones. Thanks for your time.

I'm using Yahoo and Juno email and can't send mail from either account, but I can receive
For Yahoo, I used the default set-up and entered my username and password.  For Juno, I used the POP email option with pop.juno.com as the incoming mail server and authsmtp.juno.com as the outgoing email server.
If I try to send email it get the message, "Unable to connect to the server. Please check your connection and try again (S7122) at which point I can no longer send or receive e-mail and the only way to restore some functionality is to delete my email accounts from the phone and start over.
So everything works fine until I try to send an email.  I can receive them all day though.

It isn't good. I'm finding there is no option in settings to leave the messages on the server so I can respond with my normal email client at home. I mean the Instinct is okay for reading them but responding i another thing all together.  If someone knows of a way for me to do this please share until then i won't be recieving email on my phone.
