I've had my phone for a couple of weeks now. I've read (and experienced) the limitations on the calendar app. However, today, while adding events to the calendar I got a message "No More Empty Space".

I haven't put any large files on my phone, so I removed most of the promo games since I don't use them anyway. No go, still get the same message.

Then I tried to add a new note, just to confirm that there was not any more space available on the phone. But nope, I was able to add a new note with no problem.

Seems to me that there is limited space exclusively for the calendar app and when you reach it, you are SOL, no matter the available space on your card?

Has anyone else experienced this?

I think in the updates thread over at BuzzAboutWireless.com that the calendar is limited to like 10 events or some other such stupidity.

The BaW folks are saying that they do NOT plan to enhance the calendar.

Grr.

I don't have more than 2 events per day. Even tried to add an event on an empty day. Still no dice. Got the space error...

Under internal/external space, how much does it say you have left after adding in your notes & calendar events?

In Phone 21.5m Avail

Memorycard 6402.9M Avail

I don't think it's taking up that much memory I read somewhere on Developers sight it has 128M avail onboard they just give you 32M for Misc storage the rest is saved for onboard and buffer stuff.

Memory Status is as follows:
in phone: 26.4M available
memory card: 1943.8M available

Seems pretty limiting if I can't put an event on my calendar without hitting some sort of memory threshold =/

Am I the only one that has experienced this? Surely not everyone has completely given up on the built-in calendar?

I saw the same thing, they keep telling people to buy an HTC touch or another PDA if they want this feature. Why even include the calendar if it so limited ? Maybe they should've left out the calendar and added AIM or something.

Syncing is a great option and who knows if they will make it available. Yikes! I hope it does for those who need it.

What I need is for Sprnt/Samsung to make the calendar better. How the heck do repeating events not show up?? If you have a daily or every other event, it won't show up on those days (it only shows on that one date you entered it)! It doesn't take a PDA style phone to at least show up on the repeating days! How is anyone supposed to acurately schedule appointments and such if an event for that day is not there cause the phone won't show it?! Yes, the alert/alarm will sound on that day & time, but it won't be there visually. People should be able to see all events for any particular day. That is my biggest gripe with my baby. I love her, but the calendar repeats not showing makes my left eye twitch.

The calendar sync with exchange and domino is actually under development and will be out for a future release of the email application for the instinct.

What is it going to sync? Just Title, date and time?  What about the details / comments about the calendar entry that prove so valuable...including attendees, conference call phone#, etc.? There is no way to view those with the stock calendar on the instinct.  So it will require separately built application to VIEW that information if it can even be stored on the Instinct (i.e. Pocket Informant, etc.) which I expect to be built IF the software vendors think they can make money at it?

That is why although the Instinct is a nice multimedia phone...it is just that and cannot hold a candle to other major players in the PDA/Smartphone market in which Sprint/Samsung marketing gurus tried to market against.

The email application that comes on the Instinct is whats also found on all the sprint/AT&T/Alltel smart phones. Which includes smart phones and PDA's with full calendar, details, time, date, the works. The application uses its own calendar and is completely seperate from the built ROM calendar. So you will essentially have two calendars on your device, locally, and a remote calendar that syncs with Domino and or Exchange servers. This free's the engineers from limitations you will find on the lackluster built in calendar. It will have the details in the calendar as you would find a PDA, including all the details you expressed in your post.

I would imagine the Instinct population will see this update before the end of the year.
