I'm holding out for the Hero. To me, that demolishes all of these other phones.

I would have to agree.  My friend has a MyTouch and that thing pretty nice, so I could imagine what the Hero is going to be like since it is an upgrade to the MyTouch.   I am definitely going Android whether its with sprint or not!  It would be nice if sprint just gave a date for the hero and stop playing games.

The hardware in the Hero did sound very impressive which is another reason why i kept asking people if they knew what kind of hardware the M850/900 had!

I admit I do like the design of the hero but I can not understand why HTC would use the same processor (with a few tweaks) as the touch and pro which came out about a year ago. I know this is off topic but here is a phone I'd love to see come to Sprint but will probably never see the light of day at any U.S. carrier..

The Hero has a 528mhz processor , and like 288mb of ram. Geez, with my eight gig card, this blows my dads first laptop out of the water lol.

I really like the way the Hero and the M850 look. I've read the Hero is kind of slugish so I'll have to wait and see. Thanks to the Sprint Premier program I'll be able to upgrade in November so I"ll have to wait and see how the Hero and M850 perform. Right now I'm leaning for the M850 because I love the form factor of my M800 and the M810. The phone does its job... it is a phone with some extra capabilities. If I want to have and run hundreds of apps I'll get my computer out for it.

The M900 looked nice in the pics but... I don't like physical keyboards so that takes it out of my options. Actually I think the keyboard is ugly. The green bigfoot phone we've seen pictures out on the web has a better looking keyboard than the M900. Another bummer to me was that the android UI is the default not like the HTC Hero.

I'll probably get the M850 this Christmas and wait to get an Android the following Christmas

I'm planning on getting the M850 on launch day, I already have a G1 and I dont need any more android than that. I want the M850 because I'm imagining it will be a better phone than the smartphones I've used. Just like the M810 was better to use than my G1 for most everyday things. My take on Android, WebOS and Winmo is that smartphones are really just tiny computers, they have left behind the idea of concentrating on being a good phone trying to be something more of a bridge device. Jack of all trades, master of none.

Honestly coming from a user who trys to use a G1 for business, android is just lacking in its support for PDF and Microsoft Office files. The apps are ok, but in the end I'm only able to impress iPhone users with one app, Google Sky.

People might not like it, but my opinion of the Instinct and the iPhone are that they are from the same category. The are both touchscreen dumbphones. The OS just doesn't allow for the customizing that Android and Winmo do. Which is a good thing. Cus my G1 bogs constantly, so do my friends Winmo phones, as well as my wifes Pre. I guess I have too many applications installed running in the background. The lack of large customization means a dumbphone will continue being able to do its phone task without a bunch of other software bogging down that processor. Altho, maybe one thing is good about the iPhone, it cant multitask, which means its processor is not really bogged down with background processes. Which is one of the many reasons I view the iPhone as a dumbphone instead of a smartphone.

Either way, weigh what you want. Do you want a smartphone that you can install and customize a bunch? or do you want a dumbphone which you can do less things on but some very well? When it comes to the Instinct M850 vs the M900 its almost like the situation I had recently. (backstory)I had tried two S30s but both had reception issues at my office so I returned them. Then realized that every phone I've tried after that also have reception problems. So I waited for the M850 to get the phone I'm with for a year.(end) So my situation was I had an Instinct S30 and a G1. The S30 has Opera Mini, Sprint Mobile Mail, and Sprint Instant Messenger. Which the G1 also has clients like this. BUT, sadly I preferred the S30s IM program over the G1s standard one, or any of the applications I've downloaded for staying logged in all day on ICQ. Then moving on to Internet Browsing, I liked the S30s super accurate screen, I could click with my finger on tiny text and get it right. My G1 I hit neighboring links all the time, backing up, having to wait for the page to reload, then zooming in and reclicking. So I found myself using the S30 over the G1 to browse the internet. Then Sprint Mobile Mail seemed to be a better mail client than the email client in Android for checking my three gmail accounts, it seems Sprint Mobile Mail keeps your messages on the phone and just loads new ones, while the Android mail client has to reload from the gmail server every time you need to check it, which wouldn't be a problem but it has to reload the last 30 messages in your inbox every time, which makes for a very slow quick look at your email.

So with all that stated, I used the S30 more than my G1. How does that make sense...well, those are the applications I use most. All the fun trick apps I could download on my G1 weren't what I used my phone for daily. So make your call as to what is more important to you. I'd really recommend using that 30 day return policy to its fullest, try out the M850 if you don't like it bring it back and wait for the M900. If you hate that more than the M850, return it too and go back to the M850.
