Not a fan...First I hate the way Verizon screens look.  Kinda distorted with those same blurry icons that are are every phone they have.  The interface is quick....It has haptic(sp?) feedback like the Instinct...it also has the auto screen switch feature like the iphone from portrait to landscape. GPS is slow....it shows where you are and when you move to see more of the area it says.."request sent" and it goes from 1 to 100% to process the move...about as wide...slightly shorter.  Oh, when texting..if holding portrait...you have to text 2 twice for "B"...6 three times for "O"...switch to hold landscape and it goes qwerty.  Could not figure out how to open the web....has a back button to like the Instinct...iPhone so needs one.

I played a little with the Dare but quickly passed it to my husband to play with. We had left Verizon for Sprint last month and felt the need to at least see if we made the right decision.  I think the Instinct cosmetically is better looking and I like how it feels in my hand. The Dare is a good phone, but like many have said, it comes down to what's best for the user and what call plans work for you and your family. I came away still liking my Instinct thankfully.

I have a Dare after having an Instinct for 20 days. I'll post a comparison of the 2 later now that i've had time to really use it. A detailed one, from the purchase of the phone down to listing the Dare bugs I've encountered (yes, it has bugs).

To the OP, I use vznav all day at work. The only time I've had it request info is when generating the route, rerouting due to traffic, when I go off route or when its lost gps location and has reacquired it. The behavior you described while txting in Portrait means it was set to Abc mode. Switching it to Word mode allows T9 word input.

It'll come down to personal preference I think in the end. I prefer the Dare now over the Instinct because it has way more features already on it and believe it will be a long time before Sprint has a chance to extend the features on the phone (like adding more camera, UI and music player options). I liked the Instinct's look and liked the look of the navigation software (vznav reminds me of CGA graphics and yes I'm that old).
