I can't blame you, the Instinct was a good phone, but is becoming obsolete. The Hero is nice!

I don't know...I've read one early review that seems to find that it's hardware can't keep up with it's (admitedly cool) software.

That's a remarkable looking device.  Quite solid.

It definitely deserves some "playing time" at the store.

But the "trying to tap out an address in Google Maps while walking somewhere, for instance, was a truly unpleasant experience" comment by the reviewer at http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/23/htc-hero-review/ bothered me a lot because that is precisely what I have to do on an almost daily basis (another buggaboo for the Instinct which cannot be seen well on-screen in broad daylight).

I love the design of the Hero, though, and plan to investigate further.  Thanks for bringing it up.

damn you HTC...the Hero and TouchPro 2...stop making it so difficult for me to pick my next phone (toss on top of that the Q and I'll be spending HOURS in the store playing with these things).

Well, you're doing it right if you really do spend time in the store with all the devices you're considering.  The chance of you walking out with what you really want/need are much better having done that rather than just going in and making a purchase based on hype (such as some of the Pre jumpers, etc).

This new-to-me Hero will get some handling in the store, along with the Pre a bit later this year.

i tinkered w/ the instinct quite a bit in-store, and it was the best all-touch device they had. i'm a premiere member, but my discount for an upgrade doesn't kick in till Feb Sad On the bright side, most of the kinks should be worked out of the Pre, Hero and TP2 (if it ever makes it to sprint, maybe they should call it the Sprint Duke Nukem Forever) by then.

Since that review of the Hero by Engadget that stated that it was sluggish, it has been confirmed that a higher class SD card cured the problem. Apparently, the Hero uses a small part the SD card as a swap file for memory (kind of like a hard drive on a computer).

That's cool news.

I'm getting hyped over this Hero device.

Its not because it has the name "Hero" is it? The device sounds cool but if the Q has the 2 600mhz processors with the Tegra GPU that i read about ill wait for the Q!

Well, I don't care if they call it the Potato or the Edsel.   laugh

It looks great and the reviews seem relatively positive for a brand new device.

lol, yep....dont care what the name is either, its still an awesome device. just have to wait to see how it stacks up against Samsungs Android. If the Samsung doesnt have a UI overlay such as the Hero....the Hero will win hands down even if the Samsung happens to have a Snapdragon or Tegra CPU
