After playing with this phone for well over a week, I think I am trading it in at bb for the hero!!!  After researching and reading reviews seems like it will blow the hd out of the water!!  Not impressed by hd to have it for another year

Good luck. The Hero does sound like a beast. Especially if it has over 8 GB built in memory. (I highly doubt this) Im waiting for the IQ though. Just so i can compare the TP2, Hero, IQ, and HD at the same time.

I will be joining you on the hero train.  Today was a last straw with the HD.  Had my daughter at the pumpkin patch, it was a cloudy and off and on rain here, so took a bunch of pics of her, and the flash ( had it set on auto) washed out every pic.  Not sure what was going on, but the camera was saving this phone for me.  Come on Oct 11th

hmm, all the reviews on the Hero say the camera is less than stellar. I am going to reserve judgement until I can compare with the hero in my hand, then decide if I am going to switch

I'm kind of on the boat with you. If they can fix the battery issue, then i'm on board with the HD, but I'm a bit worried. If they can't fix it before my 30 days, I may actually return it and purchase it again after the first maintenance release. I can't justify the phone if I have to have it on the charger 4 hours after I get to work. Other than that, I love the phone.

same here. battery issue is just plain scary and the one thing that has me considering switching to the hero. although the same battery issue could happen with the hero and i dont believe for a second that the camera on hero will compete with this one on the HD. the UI will be better no doubt but will it be enough to sway me? I will have 2 weeks to see how the hero fairs once its in the hands of the early adopters.
I am lovin this not being limited on characters. I can type out a novel if I want to. lol

Well yeah the hero can have the battery issue...but HTC makes pretty solid phones. My dad has a HTC Touch (first one). The camera i think is a 5 mp so who knows if it is like the HD's but i also heard that the HD's cam with flash washes things out but i haven't tried it myself.

Um thunder....did u know everytime you return a phone not only does sprint loose money but if u buy it at Bestbuy and return it Best buy looses money too. If you return it with the intent on rebuying it when the issue of the battery is resolved then make sure no other phones are out there other then the phone u buy to replace the HD to wait for the fix to come out. From taking accounting classes it makes it difficult for everyone to count returns/sales/return allowances/ and all that stuff. It costs everyone money. in fact most times the cost can come back on us the consumer. Smiley

As far as the HD's battery bug goes, this was posted by Sarah on sprintpcs.com on Thursday:

Good news!

A maintenance release is tenatively scheduled for later this month that will fix the battery indicator. I say tentatively because the MR release dates are dependent on a lot of moving parts and testing.

I am aware of those principles, but would you have me keep a phone that's just not feasible for everyday use because the bettery drain is that horrendous? I am nearly certain the M850 is the phone I want. I'm also a Sprint Premier member so I can re-up next year at this time if I need to. Personally, and this is just me, I've survived that last 15 months with the original Instinct and without an app store so I'm sure I can survive another 12 with this phone, but not if I have to worry about bringing my charger with me if I'm going to be out of the house for more than a few hours. This is one bug that's too crucial to just assume Sprint/Samsung will fix it. I've done the dance with the original Instinct and been let down with the majority of their maintenance releases. However, I feel that Sprint may have learned some important lessons with that model and I'm willing to give them another try.

Keep in mind, though this sounds like a nice customizable phone with apps galore, this is Sprint's version of the Hero...

So, if your not a fan of Sprint's version of phones, then this phone, I believe, is being hyped for a huge disappointment to many...

For those who complain about lags...this phone isn't going to answer that, and for those hoping for a phone with days in between charges, well, they already said that ain't gonna happen, and you'll spend your time turning off what you don't want running over and over between restarts.

I'll sit back, and listen to all the " oh my god's " and " this phone rocks " and see what problems arise...feedback is always good to hear...

As a fan of the Instinct and it's simplicity, and although I want a better phone knowing what phones are capable of, I'll wait and see the feedback...from the HD's first maintenence release to whatever needs to be fixed on the new Sprint version of the HTC Hero...Income tax isn't far off, and I'll have a good idea which way to go by then...just my two cents of course... Cheesy

well, i knew the hero was going to be my final decision from the get-go [preordered when i picked up the hd], but i just wanted to give the hd a trial run; being an original instinct owner and all, i wanted to see how far they've come in ~15 months...

it's not a bad phone at all, they've added a few more bells/whistles, but with the same old ui, i am kind of over it... which brings up the main point why i hate iphones, every single persons screen looks the same, [-] the standby screen you see for a second or two before they get into their device, but after that they're all synonymous, just different icons... i want more than just a bunch of icons on my screen... with the android platform, the intense amount of custom options are very nice and the growing number of apps is just stellar; you can truly "make it your own"... sure, its' got no hd video recording [compared to the hd], but i'm sure the hero's 5mp+af camera will work just fine... i upload my media ota majority of the time, so above-average quality [= bigger file size, of course], is not ideal...

if hd video recording is what you seek in a us-carrier phone, you can't have it any other way [at least for now], but other than that, you'll probably have better luck with other front-running devices, such as the palm pre [80 bones @ walmart], htc hero [180], htc touch pro2 [200 thru tele-sales, official price drop will be coming soon, i assume?], etc.

technically, i will have ~2 weeks post hero's launch to see what the early adopters report before my bb return/exchange period expires, but i am not taking any chances just in case i cosmetically damage the hd somehow... i will be there on the morning of and everything should be a-ok from there and out... my first android device, can't wait !![/s][/s][/s]

this phone isn't coming out from vzw, so i don't think we need to worry too much... and i see what you're saying about battery life... there is no smartphone out on the market right now, when used at a regular pace, will last more than a full day... as long as i don't need to charge it more than once in an any given day, i'm straight... you're smart to wait and see, but i've seen what android is capable of and i know htc makes some bomb ass handsets, so i am SOLD !!

and as soon as they start to push out the 1.6 update [if not at launch], everything should be just fine, not perfect, but just fiiiiiiine...

oh im not saying to get a new phone if your old phone takes a royal dump on your face... Its just counter productive for consumers to buy a phone just to play with it for two weeks then return it.

On the issue of which phone...I have my instinct...its still running pretty strong....and i kind of wanna stay with the instinct brand because of the smart people here so thats why im tryin to wait for the M900. Especially the AMOLED screen. THAT (being a smart phone) SHOULD have over 4 hours of battery life.

On the battery life of the hero I think i read someone say that since its a smart phone it wont have a long battery life....Well the sprint rep said he gets over 5 hours because of the huge battery that the phone came with. IN relation to the lags of the hero I think someone mentioned...That was FIXED when they put a faster Micro SDHC card in the phone. The Android OS uses a swap file on the memory like windows does and getting a faster card made the lag go away.
