Video player sound icon backwards?

I converted a video file to mp4 and uploaded it to my memory card. When I play it there is sound to it and everything is fine but the sound or speaker icon has a "X" in front of it. I assume from other products that play sounds like laptops and what not that the "X" means it muted but it's not. When I tap the speaker icon the "X" goes away but so does the sound. Has anyone else noticed this and was this simply a batch of phones being programmed backwards for this function perhaps?
