I am having a lot of difficulty getting videos to play on my phone. For instance I downloaded a south park episode, which was an .avi (it works on my computer) and I put it through sprints media manager. After it converted and put it on my phone I tired to access it. When I do it gives me an a detailed error message, something in the vicinity of "this feature is currently down" those arent the exact words, but something like it.

Can anyone give me a hint of why this is happening or what I can do to watch my video, I have yet to be able to see one in action

Might want to take a look at this post -- it talks about the format(s) Instinct can play.

Ya idk. I was tring to figure it out on my mac, but i dont know what to convert it to.

For the Mac I'd use a program called FFmpegx. It puts a nice front end on FFmpeg and can encode just about any format out there.
http://www.ffmpegx.com/

I run Linux and use FFmpeg from the cli and find it very thorough with a learning curve for the advanced features.

As for what to convert it to, I use Xvid for video and AAC for audio then stuff it into an mp4 container. I've achieved nice results with 2 pass encoding for video with a bitrate between 800-1000kb and audio at 160kb stereo.

A couple of things I've learned, the screen resolution is 432x240, the Instinct uses a 18bpp colour space and has to dither to simulate 24bpp colour, encoding with B frames will make the phone puke, Qsel and GMC are processor intensive and probably will make the phone puke.  The Iphone has a AAC encoding limit of 128kb  Grin

I guess I've been lucky. I downloaded a ton of MST3K episodes in various formats from EMULE and the SMM software converted every one I've loaded with no problem. Now if it would convert my car into a working vehicle I would marry it.

I tried using sprints media manager again and this time it worked. I checked out the initial video it put on my phone after it converted it and it was 0kbs.. lol.

Just converted 5 .avi's (south park episodes) and they all work flawlessly on the phone. Looks like the media manager did a good job!

I've been lucky to get a couple videos on my Instinct that play.

One MAJOR flaw they'll have to work on I discovered today:  Bluetooth headphones don't work with videos!  I synced a brand new pair of stereo headphones with the Instinct today, used them to listen to music for awhile. Went into video application and the music stopped. Tapped a video to play and the only sound I could hear was coming from the Instinct's speaker.

They seriously need to get this fixed!   I tried with a second pair of stereo bluetooth headphones (different brand) and got the same result.
