i am a MAC user [wich i dont think matters in this instance] i have converted my movie files via HAND BREAK to .MP4, I loaded my memory card, dragged and dropped the .mp4 file and cant get it to play on my instinct. I can see the file on the phone in the side loaded videos section but upon clicking the file, it acts like it is going to play and then i get an error message. please help.

!EDIT!
I REALIZED THAT I HAD THE CODECS SET AT "H264" NOT AT "MPEG4 VIDEO" IT NOW WORKS, BUT I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH THE VIDEO QUALITY AT ALL. THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF OF RIPPING THE MOVIES TO YOUR HARD DRIVE IS TO HAVE THEM SET AT A DECENT QUALITY SO YOU CAN WATCH THEM FULL SCREEN ON YOUR COMPUTER MONITOR, DVD, OR OTHER VIDEO PLAYING DEVICE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THERE IS A WAY AROUND NOT SUFFERING IN QUALITY WITH COMPRESSION. FYI THE FILE SIZE IS AROUND 850MB GIVE OR TAKE A LITTLE FOR THE AVERAGE MOVIE.

Try moving the file into the media folder on your memory card then try.  That worked for me.

I am also using handbrake.  I had to play with the settings a few times before I found the quality to size ratio that I liked.  I use the iPhone/iPod Touch preset.  When you select the MPEG 4 format you need to select the AAC+AC3 audio encoder.  The resolution should be set to 432x240.  Also, select the video tab and check the "Avg bitrate" value as well as the "Video Framerate" value.  Default bitrate when you use the iPhone/iPod Touch preset should be 960 and the framerate should be set to automatic.  This creates a great quality movie for me and is typically about 1GB in size.  However, I am converting movies that I used DVD Shrink to create, so some of the video compression is already shrunk down.  If you are using a standard DVD then you might see an increase in the file size with the settings that I am recommending.  You can always use DVD Encrypter to remove encryption and copy the movie to your HDD and then use DVD Shrink to "shrink" it and then use handbrake to covert it.  A slightly longer process but might be worth the saved space.
