Author Topic: Sprint and Sirius XM radio relationship  (Read 4283 times)

I read this article today about this on-going relationship between Sprint and Sirius XM radio:

http://seekingalpha.com/article/91319-will-sprint-s-instinct-go-satellite-with-sirius-xm

It would surely be nice to have Sirius XM radio added as part of the SEP.  If someone is already a subscriber to Sirius XM radio, why pay for the connection?

This would be a huge deal for me. What would be even BETTER? A satellite radio chip in the next generation Instinct...I would pay the additional monthly fee to have a bunch of channels to  my disposal when I am out running..etc...Very cool idea!

At this point, I'd be content to be able to just stream my subscription over my browser on the current phone -- but that's not even an option without something like Orb.

Yeah, and for Mac users, Orb is not even an option.  Sad

there is a site  www.xstreamxm.com/mobile  but it dose not seem to work on the Instinct, not sure if there is any possible work around.

I can login and pick a station, but theres no sound and the page keeps reloading.

Look here is the bottom line...If you own a Sirius (and probably XM) physical unit you get FREE with your subscription, all the channels streamed at 32K you can pay I think it is $4 and up that to 128K.  It is ridiculous that two companies that already have an agreement would be this disconnected.

There is a way to get XM free, its www.mobile.musicdock.com
I have this bookmarked on computer and had it on my Palm Centro, runs on computer, ran fine on Centro.  You just log in with user name and password.
HOWEVER, it does not work on Instinct.  It allows you to pull up site, log in as above, pick genre you want, select station, shows what's playing, then no music!!
I have no idea why it doesn't play, thought it might be that Java thing, but lets you keep selecting and inputting data, just no music.
So strange, you can do this on any other computer or internet connection.
Any thoughts or fixes, try and post

I'm unsure why some people are against Orb, unless they're using a Mac.  I'm currently sitting at my desk @ work (where xmradio.com is blocked), listening to POTUS '08 on XM radio, streamed to my phone.  Orb + uXM work great.

The only issue I have is that text message notifications are interrupting the stream, thanks to Twitter feeds going nuts with election tidbits.

To answer your question, it is because people may be on a mac or linux.  More to the point why should you need a rebroadcaster when the content is available directly off the web.  If you actually own a Sirius or XM unit you already have the ability FOR FREE to stream ANY of the channels from your provider.  Sprint has gone out of their way to actually block the ability to even visit these sites on your phone.

Unless you have a Mac or Linux box, uSirius + Orb should work.  Of course you will have to do the setup, and you will have to have your PC on at all times.

Do u happen to have links of what i need to download to make this work? if so, thanks

also, i know that when listening online after a little while it will stop playing if u dont have some movement, is this an issue if u leave it up on ur computer while u arent there?  i would hate to leave the house and be into somethin on sirius and all the sudden it cuts off
